Today is "Anxious Dogs Day", a reminder to show extra love and understanding to our furry friends who may be struggling with anxiety and nerves 🐾

Being aware of the signs of anxiety and catching them early can help our best mates cope and thrive:

- Panting, pacing, shivering
- Inability to settle
- Barking or howling when you are out of the house
- Running away or cowering
- Digging, trying to escape
- Destroying or urinating on furniture
- Excessive self-licking or chewing
- Lack of interest in food

It's important to offer gentle reassurance and positive reinforcement to our dog friends and to support them with the patience and care they need, seeking guidance from a veterinary specialist where appropriate.

Also, keep an eye out for dogs in yellow collars and leads, and try to give them a little space while they learn and adjust, showing them kindness and understanding ❤

What is the difference between private and individual cremation?

At Pets at Peace Illawarra, every pet receives a private cremation in its own separate chamber. We do not separate pets by a few bricks in the same chamber.

We believe that pet owners do not want to take the risk of their pet’s ashes being mixed in any way. This ensures that the ashes returned to the families we care for are 100% their pet’s, providing the peace of mind that pet owners need during this difficult time.

It is always our mission to return pets to their own families and to honour their lifetime of unconditional love 🐾

It’s Clean Up Australia Day today, and we encourage you to make it every day. When you’re going for a walk, take a bag or box with you to pick up bottles and plastic rubbish – but do remember, safety first!

You can form your own group, or join an event already in place here: https://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/join-a-clean-up

As National Cat Health Month draws to a close, we would like to touch on some of the most effective ways to care for your feline friends:

Regular Check-ups: Schedule routine vet visits to catch potential health issues early. Building their check-up history with your vet is an essential way to track changes in your cat's wellbeing. 📊

Vaccinations: Seek guidance from your vet to ensure your cat's vaccines are up-to-date for disease prevention.

Weight and Dental Management: Keep your cat active with playtime and a balanced diet. Remember to feed them a diet that supports oral hygiene.

Grooming Routine: Bond with your cat while keeping their coat healthy and monitoring for skin issues. 🐾

Care Planning: Have a go-bag of your pet's medication and food handy for any emergencies (keeping an eye on expiration dates). Keep contact numbers of friends and family who can care for your cat if you are suddenly called away with this pack.

Senior Planning: Make arrangements for furniture and spaces that are friendly for your cat as they age. Soft blankets, orthopaedic beds, steps up to higher spaces they love—all of these things can be a wonderful way to show them you care.

Remember that our feline friends will often not tell us if they need something and will simply and suddenly become shy or reserved. Keep an eye out for changes in their behaviour, and as always, love them and cherish their unique charms 🐱

It's no secret that going for a w-a-l-k is one of our dog's favourite things to do.

A simple walk can breathe fresh air into our souls and lift our spirits, especially if you have experienced a recent loss.

A memorial walk with friends, family, or neighbours can be a truly beautiful and heartwarming way to honour pets who are forever in your hearts and have crossed the rainbow bridge.

Tag a friend who you would like to go on a memorial walk with on a cooler day to start a conversation 🌈 because our love for our pets is forever, and never fades xo
