Some of you may have heard there has been a recent outbreak of canine Parvovirus.
Parvovirus is a highly contagious disease and potentially fatal disease which spreads via faecal matter and can stay in the environment for long periods of time. Symptoms can include bloody diarrhoea, lethargy, vomiting, fever and abdominal pain.
Diagnosis is confirmed via a quick in house blood test and intensive treatment is needed which can be on-going for several days in an isolation ward.
This disease is preventable with annual vaccinations so we are urging everyone to ensure their dogs are up to date with their vaccinations. If you are unsure please give us a call at the clinic on (02)4261 4055 and we can ensure you dog is covered. We also suggest staying away from dog parks and beaches during the outbreak to minimise your dogs risk of catching the disease and to help control the spread.

Community Update: Canine Parvovirus in Local Areas
We’ve been informed of cases of Canine Parvovirus (CPV) in the Warrawong area, with possible cases in Berkeley and Port Kembla.
While we’re not managing this situation directly, we want to keep our community informed so you can help protect your pets. Parvovirus is contagious and can be very serious, especially for puppies, but there are steps you can take to reduce risk.
✅ Helpful tips for pet owners:
• Keep vaccinations up to date – Puppies should start vaccinations at 6–8 weeks and complete their booster schedule.
• Limit visits to dog parks and until your pet is fully vaccinated.
• Maintain good hygiene – Regularly clean bowls, bedding, and surfaces.
• Monitor for signs – If your dog seems unwell (symptoms like tiredness, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite), contact your vet promptly.
