When and why we reinforce is important, but so is where! If you regularly place your reinforcement in the same location, your dog will gravitate towards it.
This can either work for, or against you.

In this video Cleo clearly has a strong reinforcement history for being in front of her trainer (very common). This isn't necessarily a huge problem for reinforcing stationary behaviours, but you don't want a dog flipping in front of you when you're walking them! It's inconvenient and honestly can be dangerous (one moon boot is enough thank you).

So early in her program we worked with Cleo on changing her expectations around reinforcement. We built value for being in position, next to her trainer as opposed to in front. Clear communication makes all training easier!
