TODAY WAS THE MOST WONDERFUL DAY!
AFTER 28 LONG DAYS, WE FOUND HIM!!!
Casper is at the vet, receiving the best care he can get and he will hopefully be ok to come home in a day or two, after some checks ups, fluids, some delicious food and lots of love. He does have some injuries which the vet will help him with.
After the sighting on Sunday, we honed all of our attention on the paddocks in South Dudley. Unfortunately he managed to escape by the time we arrived, but we decided to focus purely on that area.
To anyone driving down South Dudley Rd over the last few nights, who've seen people running up and down in the rain, with binoculars and torches, that was us. :-)
It was frustrating because we had eyes on him through the night vision goggles on Monday night, but when the rain really hit hard, we lost him again.
Then on Tuesday, we were out at sunrise in the same area, and took turns in keeping eyes over the paddock until evening, with no sign of him.
SO, TODAY HAPPENED!!! AND WE ARE SO GRATEFUL!
It all came together perfectly and it was time to bring him home.
Firstly, one of our wonderful helpers, Helen Sellick who was so concerned for Casper, was watching over the paddock, when she smelt a really nasty smell (sadly, a deceased kangaroo) and she went to investigate to make sure it wasn't Casper. She got to the sight of the roo and who should pop his head out? Casper!!
In the meantime, Kristal Forbes from the rescue group, had been informed by a man of Caspers location. If you are that man, could you please make yourself known to us, you helped us catch this boy, along with Helen, today, and we just want to thank you so much!!!
Kristal was an hour away, so I raced to the site and called our wonderful wildlife warrior, Simonne Fleming of Rescue To Release Inc. who has been our rock since she started helping us, and we all took our positions, in case he ran. He did infact head away from us and rested in bushes, about 300 metres from where he was first spotted.
Simonne, decided to head down the path towards where Casper was resting and sat herself gently in the mud, about three metres from him and started gently speaking to him. She had bacon on hand and he started taking some. It was a slowly slowly situation because we didn't want him to run again.
45 minutes later, Kristal arrived and headed slowly down the path as well. Casper hadn't moved and he was still in the bushes receiving the bacon bits from Simonne.
Casper knew Kristal's voice immeiately and started making eye contact. For another hour, both Kristal and Simonne sat in the mud, talking to Casper until he came close enough for them to be able to secure him with leads. The slow walk, safely back to the car, seemed to take forever, for us, waiting up on the road, but it was one of the best things I've ever seen!
Casper was taken straight to Wonthaggi vet, where he is safe and warm and will be there for a couple of days.
We just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the search. this is a wonderful community and we couldn't have done it without you all.
LOVE, TEAM CASPER ###x
PS
We have had people ask if they can donate for his vet bills and that would be amazing as well!
