The extended long weekend to honour the Queen's life and the AFL Grand Final means our clinics will be closed for 4 days. If your pet requires ongoing medication or a revisit before the upcoming weekend, please call to arrange this ASAP.

💊 💊 UNUSED PET MEDICATIONS 💊💊

In line with the government initiative to dispose of human and pet medications safely, you will no longer be able to return any unused or out of date medications to our clinics. We are unable to re-dispense any returned medications as we can’t be sure of their storage conditions/viability whilst not in our clinics. Instead, we recommend return to your local pharmacy for appropriate disposal.

🦠😷 MASKS ON 😷🦠

With another wave of COVID sweeping through our community and Victoria as a whole, we ask all our staff and clients to please wear a mask during consultations. Social distancing is not possible whilst holding your pet for examination so we are extremely reliant on masks to reduce viral spread.

If you forget your mask when you arrive at the clinic our reception staff will be able to provide you with one. If you are unable to wear a mask due to a health exemption, a nurse will hold your pet while the vet examines/treats it in the treatment room while you wait in the waiting room.

Please respect our efforts to try and minimise the spread of COVID within our clinics. Our aim is to keep staff as healthy as possible so they can be present to look after your pets.

🤒 🦠 COVID STRIKES AGAIN 🦠 🤒

Unfortunately a significant number of our staff are in isolation due to COVID. Please bear with us as we shuffle staff and appointments to be able to attend urgent cases. This may mean you don’t get to see a specific vet or we need to postpone/cancel your non-urgent appointment/surgery. 📆

If you are visiting the clinic we ask that you please wear a mask and advise reception if you are feeling unwell before coming inside. 😷

🩺👩‍⚕️🐕🐈🐴 WORLD VET DAY - 30TH APRIL 2022🐄🐏🐇👨‍⚕️🩺

Today we celebrate World Veterinary Day! The theme for this year’s World Veterinary Day is ‘Strengthening Veterinary Resilience’.

The past two years have placed an unprecedented strain on the industry. According to research conducted by Animal Medicines Australia, the pandemic saw pet ownership numbers increase by nearly 20%. The veterinary profession also had to quickly pivot to provide contactless consultations and telehealth services. On top of the many challenges associated with the pandemic, the profession also faced bushfires and floods.

We are so fortunate to have a tight-knit team of veterinarians, nurses and support staff at GVG that not only can share knowledge, but also the huge array of emotions that comes along with working in this profession.

Thankyou to our team of vets who prioritise their clients and patients everyday, not just the days they’re physically at work ❤️

😷 ALL WE ASK IS YOU WEAR A MASK 😷

While masks are no longer part of the mandatory government COVID safety plan, they are still strongly recommended where social distancing isn’t possible. Given we cannot social distance during consults we expect our staff and clients to continue to wear masks in our clinics.

Minimising the risk of viral transmission increases the chance of our staff staying healthy and being able to continue looking after your beloved pets.

💐🍫EASTER TOXIN REMINDER🍫💐

CHOCOLATE - 🍫🐕The Oreo ad kid was right when he said "Mum said chocolate isn't good for dogs" - chocolate can be extremely toxic to pets resulting in a fast/irregular heart rate, tremors and seizures. Avoid access to chocolate and if you find your pet has been more successful on an Easter Egg hunt than hoped, contact the clinic to induce vomiting.

LILLIES - 💐🐈 Easter lillies (in fact all lillies) are extremely toxic to cats so keep this in mind if you've been gifted beautiful flowers this weekend. All parts of the flower/stem are toxic (resulting in kidney failure) so avoid any access for cats.

Please be advised that we will be available for EMERGENCIES ONLY over the upcoming long weekends:

- Easter weekend (15-18th April) from 5:30pm Thursday 14th April until 8:30am Tuesday 19th April at the LEONGATHA small animal clinic

- ANZAC Day weekend (23-25th April) from 5:30pm Friday 22nd April until 8:30am Tuesday 26th April at the WONTHAGGI veterinary clinic

Please note we will operate our small animal afterhours service from one location only (respective clinic stated above). No small animal clinics will be open for routine appointments/medication collection or retail sales on any day of the above long weekends. A surcharge applies to all afterhours consultations.

If your pets or livestock require food or ongoing medication please be prepared for these extended breaks and order/collect these as soon as possible. Altered supply of medications from our wholesalers is possible as a result of the short weeks either side of the long weekends.

Covid update ...

Dear Facebook Family, mask rules change on Friday night, however in our clinical settings we will still be asking clients to wear their masks. The reason for this is of course, is that in our close face to face workspaces, we want to minimise risk to our staff and clients from getting sick - resulting in our inability to provide our vital services. So, please help us out and continue to wear a mask in our clinical settings. Of course mask exemptions apply and we will continue to serve you if this is the case, but we will need to have one of our nurses holding your pet in the consult room while we examine. Thanks as always for your help and cooperation (and patience!). Note also that you may see our staff not wearing masks behind the scenes, but will be wearing masks when helping you.
