Our Story

Pets Haven Animal Shelter is a facility that re-homes orphan cats, kittens dogs and puppies who would otherwise have no future. Animals are rescued from death row pounds, puppy farms and the community. Animals who do not require rehabilitation are kept at our shelter whilst waiting to be adopted into a new homes. Animals which require rehabilitation are placed into approved foster homes, with all medical and like expenses paid by Pets Haven. Once the animal has recovered, the animal is also placed up for adoption. All animals in our care are vet checked, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and scanned for ringworm. Every animal is temperament tested prior to arrival at the shelter. The staff and volunteers then spend time getting to know each animal so that they can help prospective adopters make an educated decision on whether the animal they are interested in is suitable for them. If a Pets Haven staff member does not think an adoption is appropriate, the adoption will not proceed. The correct environment, home, lifestyle and family for our animals are our greatest concerns. Our animals have already gone through enough pain and uncertainty, they need homes that will last a lifetime. We also take in unwell animals and cruelty cases and we provide the required veterinary treatment and after care. The animals that come to us mistreated, malnourished, abused or neglected often require extensive medical treatment and we always provide what they require to recover. OUR STORY

The premise upon which the Foundation was born was based on the exorbitant amount of animals being euthanised in pounds and shelters. This is a prevalent issue that has a potential resolution and thus our goal is to educate the community about responsible pet ownership. As well as to provide rehabilitation for abused or neglected animals in order to responsibly rehouse them back into the community. The reality that each year thousands of innocent and healthy animals lose their lives is soul destroying. Furthermore, the sad fact is that most shelters operate with ‘pound contracts’ meaning that they receive generous revenue for incoming stray animals at the expense of euthanising healthy animals to create room, this is inconceivable to us. We will never euthanise innocent and healthy animals just to create space. We will always be there to provide hope and a second chance for our companion pets. The pedestal upon which we place both “human and fur” is second to none. Our doors are always open to members of the community and we are focused on providing a safe haven for people along with orphaned animals
