Fun Fact:
Why yes, "horse diving" was a thing for awhile.
We don't have much information on horse diving, but this photo in our collection was taken by L.A. Huffman probably between the late 1890s and 1930.
What we do know is horse diving usually involved a pretty young woman, who rode a horse off of a platform, dropping up to 60 feet into a relatively shallow pool (some accounts report them being only 12-to-14-feet deep).
Horse diving was a big event in the early late 1890s and 1900s in St. Louis, Missouri, and Atlantic City, New Jersey, but by 1970s interest had waned, and the horses were sold, ending the practice.

Hawthorn, scientifically known as Crataegus, is a plant that has been used for centuries for its potential health benefits, both for humans and animals, including horses.

Hawthorn is often used for its potential cardiovascular benefits. It may help improve blood circulation and strengthen the heart muscle. In horses, this could be beneficial for maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system, especially in older or performance horses.

Hawthorn contains antioxidants, which can help combat oxidative stress and reduce inflammation. This can potentially support the overall health and well-being of horses.

Some horse owners believe that hawthorn can have a calming effect on nervous or anxious horses. It may help reduce stress and anxiety, making it a valuable supplement for horses that are easily stressed or agitated.

Hawthorn may have mild digestive benefits and help alleviate minor digestive issues in horses.

Some components of hawthorn have immune-boosting properties, which can potentially enhance the horse's immune system. This could be particularly helpful in keeping horses healthy and resilient.
