Simon Gray Saddlery (SGS) is a small boutique business specialising in stockman’s and polocrosse saddlery, although any equestrian items can be custom made to order. Located in the Perth Hills area of Western Australia, SGS uses only the highest quality materials and every item is handcrafted with skill and precision. SGS can custom make a unique item for the discer

ning equestrian, including dressage and show bridles, and will make to measure. Similarly all repair work to saddles and tack is undertaken with care and accuracy using quality materials. SGS began in 2008 and has an established clientele throughout Australia and internationally, offering free postage for orders over $300 (excluding saddles and repairs). SGS is one of only a few saddlers licensed with the Australian Stock Horse Society to craft tack with their ‘.A.’ logo. Being a member of the Saddlers and Harness Makers Association of Australia (SHMAA) Simon is committed to keeping the saddlery trade alive in Australia. Simon’s passion for horses started when he was 3 years old, learning to ride on a fat pony called Lennark. Simon continues to ride with his greatest enjoyment being on the polocrosse field, and is a dedicated member of the Perth Polocrosse Club. Simon’s interest in saddle making was sparked when, as a teenager, he was introduced to leatherwork at Pony Club. He undertook work experience with a Perth saddler during his final school year and was offered a saddlery traineeship in Victoria upon leaving school. His training was undertaken under the guidance of several renowned saddlers and he has since developed his own unique craftsman skills and products. Simon offers friendly service and takes great pride in his work thereby ensuring every customer is completely satisfied. He is happy to travel to measure your horse and can arrange pick up and delivery of items.

Here are a couple of photos of a saddle I’ve recently finished for lady who sadly lost everything in the terrible Wooroloo bushfire. The least I could do to help is add in a bonus bridle and breastplate set, naturally in Perth Polocrosse Club Inc. colours. Jess, I hope this helps you getting back out on the field in style.

As you probably know there has been a devastating fire near Perth. We haven’t been affected but I’ve been out fighting it the last couple of days and sadly friends and customers have been impacted. I intend on going out helping with the clean up too and therefore won’t be in the workshop for a bit. I will do my best to get in contact with customers and update order statuses where possible. Stay safe everyone :)

Congratulations to Warwick Lawrence and DELRIO DESTINY on winning the RM Williams ABBEY Open Challenge and the trophy saddle proudly donated by Simon Gray Saddlery.

2019 ASHS National Show - Congratulations to our R.M.Williams ABBEY Open Challenge Champion DELRIO DESTINY ridden by Warwick Lawrence. This stallion was bred and is owned by Helen Batterham at Everleigh ASH Stud.

They will take home $5,550 in prizemoney + a TROPHY SADDLE proudly sponsored by Simon Gray Saddlery + stallion service to CADABRA (AUS) - HSH + trophy rug & garland.

Packing up for the ASHS Nationals and enjoying a beer to celebrate that I got everything finished. I will have 3 saddles, at least 12 matching bridle/ breastplate sets plus reins, number holders and other hand made saddlery for sale.

Best of luck to everyone at the ASHS Nationals this coming weekend. Unfortunately we wont be coming over this year as there's a bit of a wedding Penelope and I will be attending- ours!
I'll be off work for about a week so there shouldn't be too much of a delay in any orders. Keep an eye out for the SGS saddle up for grabs again this year in the ABBEY Open Challenge.

Exciting news SGS is getting a new website and it will be mobile friendly! Whilst I'm working on this I will not be taking on any repairs. If I have committed to your repair I will get to it, hopefully in the timeframe I stated.

Each SGS bridle has 179 hand stitches, including 9 hand stitched keepers. Keepers with a run of stitches are stronger, more durable and look better than a butt loop stitched keeper or one with a brass staple.

Once you go black..... well once you've got a black saddle you probably need some black tack to go with it! I can custom make all my tack in black as well as the traditional dark Havana and ausnut - a liver chestnut/ reddish brown. This set is black with navy blue braiding plus two sets of reins ready for the Perth Royal Show.

Please note- due to preparations for my intentions to trade at the Landmark Classic and ASHS Nationals I will not be taking on any repairs or odd jobs (belts, one off jobs etc) until after the events (March 2017). I want to focus on getting my back log emptied and gear in stock to head east. We're open for business at the Australian Polocrosse National Championship at Albury. The Grand parade is done, with WA winning the best presented state, and the first game is underway. Pop on down and say G'day.

Simon Gray Saddlery is now offering a new 'stencil' brass '.A.' logo on bridles and breastplates. Instead of being engraved and paint filled the 'A' is cut out of the brass to show the colour of the leather behind. These are proving a great hit but the original green ones are still available.
I will be at the Australian Polocrosse Nationals, Albury later this month and then the Australian Stockhorse Society National Show, Tamworth in May. I will have as much stock available for sale as possible, as well as a mobile workshop to fill orders and do repairs.

No orders will be filled between 18th May and 7th June due to a holiday. No large repairs will be taken on from now but I will endeavour to do all small urgent repairs.
