How much rain have we had?
Well over 100ml..
I've had people say to me today, how can you not rugging your horses in the rain?
Im a BIG believer in horses cope with what they get used to. Rug horses 27/7 and thats what they get accustomed to (and expect 🙊) don't rug them and that's what they get used to aswell!
Either commit to rugging properly/adequately or don't....what I can't stand is horses standing around in cold, saturated COTTONS and HEAVY rugs that leak in this amount of rain!
Don't get me wrong, all my horses have been rugged, foals learn what rugs are but they don't live in them 24/7
Are the horses cold? Yes.
Are they fed extra to compensate for the current cold snap? Yes.
Are the TB mares coping? Yes.
Do they have space to run around to keep warm? Yes, believe me, marlo cuts laps to warm up 👏
Have they got adequate shelter? Yes (trees, plantations for wind breaks, shelter sheds in some paddocks....(most of the time they dont even use it)
Each to their own but try to keep my guys as natural as possible.
