Dee at the shelter Central Coast Animal Care Facility is experiencing an all time low at the moment. She’s a real hero to so many dogs, it’s just they don’t have a voice to let her know how amazing she is and how grateful we are. But we humans do. So many members of our pack wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Dee. Dearest Dee, you are our hero without a cape. Thank you for fighting with every minute of your day, every breath that you take for the dogs. Perhaps if you have a moment you could pop a comment on the shelter’s post I’m sharing below letting Dee know how incredible she is. Thank you to the shelter staff for letting us all know so we can possibly help with some much needed positivity Dee’s way.

Dee is probably going to hate me for this, but this post is pretty relevant to her at the moment.

As most of you know, Dee works her fingers to the bone every day and is constantly interrupted & pulled in every direction. At the end of the day she is exhausted and feels like she's accomplished absolutely nothing.

Normally this feeling can be pushed aside knowing that she's helped people & their animals but this last week has made it impossible to ignore.

When you work in rescue some days are harder than others, you get burnt out and can only focus on the bad. Your "astonishing light" is no longer able to illuminate the day. Although she has made significant progress with Cannon, CJ & Ted this has all been over-written by two incredibly heart breaking cases.

Last week Dee got a call from the police about the dog of a member of the public she has helped in the past. Sadly their dogs turned on one of their own and severely injured one of their other dogs. Dee raced to the property, then straight to the vets who were set up waiting for her. Sadly, while undergoing surgery, this beautiful dog passed away.

The second case is just as tragic.

We had organised with an owner to take her dog from her, we just needed to ensure he was vaccinated & we would take him on after the two week period of letting the vaccination do its magic. On day 14 she called & demanded we take him immediately as she was done waiting. We asked for a few more days so we could get a kennel or carer organised and she became furious.

When we called her a few days later to organise bringing him into the facility she said she no longer needed our help but refused to say any more.

She had put him to sleep.

Although none of this was Dee's fault & all she has done is try to help these people, she feels responsible for these deaths & like she didn't do enough.

She has been taken advantage of, abused and expected to bend over backwards for more and more people literally every day.

Her light is gone.

I wish she could see herself the way we see her. Maybe then she would see how many animals are still with us because of her. Maybe then she would see how grateful so many people are for her. For the food she's donated to them, the impound/registrations fees that have been raised by her freedom buster program, how many people have their electricity still on & food in the fridge because of her.

She is invaluable to us & the community, we just wish she knew how bright her light truly is.. even if she can't see it herself.

Winter is here and the days are getting a little colder with the sun hanging low and staying out for less of the day. There's been a lot of days with rain too.

We're trying something a little different here, a journal of sorts. Luke's diary as a pack leader, someone who's life has literally gone to the dogs. I've put together a short version here (well as short as I could) and a long uncut version on a new long format channel we're trialing called The Farm - Dog TV. Hoping this will be something for most. Long and short versions. The longer format isn't for everyone but some might also like to pop it in the background or leave it on for a pet when you leave home for the day, it helps us out a lot.

The Dodo has put together a great video about our dearest Freddo. What a truly magnificent soul he is. Not a day goes by I don’t wish we’d met earlier. Instead of simply sharing the link to the video this time, I’d also like to mention that Iron Dog Rescue Inc has 52 Rottweilers in their care at the moment. Many have been there for months and years. If you’re thinking about getting a Freddo please consider adopting one of their adult dogs before buying a pup off Gumtree etc. They are in great need of good homes, and let’s be honest Rottweilers are truly incredible creatures. It is an absolute honour to be loved and protected by one.

The dogs are practicing their wait at the gates together as a pack. The kids like to help Dad train the dogs at the gates. It's exciting for all when they hear the 'through' command and they all race through together.

Then it's playtime in the bush and the big grassy paddock. Dogs playing in the mud puddles, chasing each other in the big open field, rolling in the grass.

And it's not just the dogs, Wolf rolls in the grass too copying his pal Freddo and then jumps in the mud puddle just like the dogs. Why not me too he thinks!

Thank you very much to Dru for sending us a box of delicious salmon doggy treats. They all enjoyed it and so did Tina and Cruiser the Dingoes. The humans were spoiled with a quiche and meat pie. Thank you so much Dru.

Crispy the Golden Retriever puppy loves to wrestle with her growing number of best pals. It has now grown to include Abra the Belgian Malinois. Perhaps not the likely friendship, but Crispy seems to have a knack to relentlessly win over anyone.

In the evening, it's time to settle in and find our spots. Louis the Ginger cat is so comfortable he now claims his own armchair. Kitty the Tortoiseshell Cat comes alive at night with all her friends inside and often races along the beams above doing her version of zoomies.

I've really enjoyed putting this video together, it was like a trip down memory lane. Both Luke and I couldn't believe how much has been packed into these 7 years since the very first day of doggy daycare farm trips.

This was a game we used to play back in the daycare days. Luke got out his old camo gear from his military days and would hide in the bush. Then a big pack of 40-50 dogs would search the bush land for him.

Well we haven't played it with our rescue dog pack. They don't know this game. We weren't sure how it would go. Would they find him? If so, who would be the first one to sniff him out?

Luke lays a line of sausages as a decoy.

It was a little bit of fun on this overcast day. A break from the building and something a little different to the bush runs they're used to.

In the evening, it's time for everyone to settle in. We all find our spots on the couches. Even Louie the Ginger Cat is loving this time of the day now. Hanging out with his canine family.

Eventually all the dogs fall asleep. Possibly dreaming of finding Dad.

We are in our Autumn (Fall) here at the farm and the beautiful leaves on the Liquid Ambers that line the driveway are falling to the ground. It’s always been a lovely time of year for the family (kids and dogs) to get out together and enjoy the golden sun, the mild weather and the crunchy colourful leaves.

Today the children and dogs helped Mum and Dad with some gardening. Raking and picking up the leaves, the mowing of the lawn and the whipper snipping. Moose the Boxer was an extra big help with the broom! There's a big week of heavy rain forcast from tomorrow onwards, so we're in preparation.

The dogs enjoyed a beautiful early morning run and then a restful slow breakfast with the family.

Crispy the Golden Retriever is making friends with everyone. She’s also giving the bush runs and field runs a good go with all her encouraging siblings.

We bring Dad some lunch while he's working in the Dingo paddock. Tina and Cruiser are very happy and love a play around the dam. Tina is both cheeky and very affectionate. She's such a sweet little Dingo Pup.

At the end of the day it's time to settle in to our comfy spots on an armchair, even Louis our Ginger cat has claimed his, and then we relax and sleep peacefully while Mum and Dad make dinner and watch a movie.

In the spirit of Anzac Day yesterday, when thinking about the description of this video, I can't help but think, that a truly ordinary day like today's video, has a whole lot more meaning to this guy than what it might seem to most.

Let me explain. Here's a veteran who served for many years and returned a broken man suffering from PTSD amongst other things. He struggled to connect with people as a civilian. Didn't know what to do with his life to be honest. So he began working with dogs. He felt like he understood them and they him. Luke would say they even saved him. I would agree.

And so, when life seemed to offer a choice to take a path to help misplaced and misunderstood shelter dogs he took it.

He gave up a business he had built, to give back to some needy dogs that reminded him of himself and his own struggles fitting into society.

Well here he is today. An ordinary day.

A day, as always, completely devoted in every way to giving these dogs the best life he can possibly manage.

From sunrise, to way past sunset. Each and every day.

Whether it's building the Dingoes the most fandangle shelter he can imagine. Thinking of new ways to make them feel like they belong. Helping with their relationships. Taking the pack for multiple runs and swims. Feeding them the best food he can muster. Vacuuming the floor 10 times, loading the washing machine for 20th time, picking up the 40th poo. And telling them they're loved and beautiful.

Whatever they need to feel loved, understood and that they belong ... there's no limit to what he will do.

It gives him purpose and he's returning a favour. You saved mine, now allow me to save yours.

This pack is his platoon. And no one will ever get left behind.

To all those who have served, thank you for your service. To the families of those who have served, thank you also for your sacrifice. To the animals that stood beside our men and women and gave their lives in service. Lest we Forget.

And I'd like to acknowledge the battle that continues for our service men and women long past the battlefield. Long past their retirement. It really is a lifelong service. Hopefully all over the world, people are recognising this more and more and helping our soldiers when they need us most.

Dee’s shelter is asking for help to save 4 dogs that are fighting for their life against Parvo. Saving a dog from Parvo is very costly, council have advised to euthanise, but Dee is asking anyone who can help her save them.

Very sadly, these poor dogs have been dumped and abandoned in this heartbreaking state.

Any kind of donation, it wouldn’t matter how small will help these poor dogs. No dogs deserve this and on top of this they’re fighting for their life without the only families they knew. So sad.

Dee has made a video on YouTube. In the description is several ways to help.

Sadly Dee has had to close the shelter and they are praying by no other dogs become affected.

We had a lot of rain on and off over the weekend. The kids enjoyed racing bottle top lids in the rainwater rivers. The dogs enjoyed coming along for the adventure as always. Even Crispy the Golden Retriever came out in the rain for a family adventure. There were a few tears, Wolfie a little tired at the end of the day and a slip and a graze in the mud. But nothing a nice warm shower and getting into your pajamas can't fix. An early evening inside drying off all the dogs and Dingoes. Each of the 20 dogs, 2 Dingoes, 2 cats and 5 humans under the same roof as the rain continued outside. A Children's movie on the TV and popcorn, it was a real treat!

The dogs are practicing their wait at the gates together as a team. They love when it's time for the 'through' command and they get to run through together. Lily the German Shepherd runs straight to Luke but also lets everyone know about behaving with her vocalising.

Then it's playtime in the doggy playground. Dogs digging in the sand, dogs running through the open field. Dogs swimming in the dam and playing together.

Dad is in the Dingo enclosure building the shelter whilst we play.

Doggy peanut butter as an afternoon treat.

Crispy the Golden Retriever puppy loves to wrestle with her best pal Miss Red the Staffy, but she's also made a friend in Matilda the German Shepherd. Crispy loves to wrestle with her friends and then pass out at my feet.

Abra the Belgian Malinois Mix stares at Kitty the Cat. The game for Kitty is to act like she doesn't care, only to highlight Abra's over the top keenness.

We're all just giving Dad time to build at the moment before the heavy rain comes tonight/tomorrow.

In the evening, it's time to settle in. Find our spots on the couches. Rosco the Mastiff and the Pittie brothers Tank and Chopper aren't quite ready to settle.

Eventually all the dogs fall asleep. Maybe dreaming of peanut butter or swimming or wrestling or any of the things they love to do each day in their life together on the farm.

Crispy the Golden Retriever puppy bravely ventured out of the house without the kids for a bush run with the pack for the first time. A little unsure at times what everyone was doing but super happy to spot her little pal Miss Red in the middle of the field.

Could this be the start of something? Possibly? She's a super sweet little pup that really loves the comforts of inside with her little people, but has made a few friends in the pack that have told her it can be a little bit fun to do farm stuff now and then. She's taking their word for it and giving it a good go.

Cutie Pie the Pug shows her how it doesn't matter how small you are, Tilly the Cattle Dog shows how Chemo and surgery can't even hold a gal back ... and well Miss Violet might stumble into a few of her siblings sure, but she tears across the paddock and throws any kind of so called limitations into the wind.

If that's not even just a little bit inspirational for a cute little golden retriever, well gee I don't know what is.

Cruiser and Tina the Dingoes' friendship is growing. They enjoy snacks and cuddles from mum and visits from their doggy friends. Dad's building them something. It's slow going but they're excited to see what it might be.

In the evening, Louis likes to lounge alongside the dogs these days. Having come to the farm as a mature cat, he hasn't grown up with the dogs like Kitty did as a kitten, so it's taken a little longer for him to realise we're all together family here.

A very slow simple Sunday morning here at the farm. There was no rush to get into our day (well except Dad, he was off building in the Dingo enclosure).

Crispy has the whole pack wrapping her up in love and acceptance. She's a typical little Goldie puppy wanting to play with everyone and everything. Even Cutie Pie's tail. The shepherds responsibly come in and gently try to redirect Crispy's attention from their little sis CP.

Abra is still fascinated by Kitty. And Kitty still loves the attention.

Thought about not sharing this one, because I have to mute the audio as the kids were watching the new Bluey mini movie length episode on repeat. Also, it's pre clean up time and the sunlight is really highlighting all that hair and dust of 20 dogs ... which I'm sure is going to be the very anti of relaxing for some people. But I just thought with so many things in the world at the moment getting many of us down, someone even if just one out there, might really need a simple peaceful video of happy dogs this morning.

Late Saturday evening, Lily the German Shepherd was rushed to the emergency hospital and underwent surgery to save her life. Lily is now one of the lucky dogs that have survived Bloat or Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (GDV). It is crucial to know the signs because you only have hours to get them the surgery they need to survive. We are sharing Lily's experience in the hope it might save another dog's life. We only knew the signs ourselves because others had shared their own experiences.

We are so very happy to have our beautiful girl home and recovering.
