๐ What To Do If You Find a Fledgling ๐
At this time of year we often see young birds sitting or jumping on the ground with no parent in sight. ๐ฃ This is normal behaviour and is not a cause for concern.
As tempting as it is to 'rescue' a young bird on the ground, in most cases it is not necessary, and may, in fact, drastically reduce its chances of survival.
Only remove a bird as a last resort when you are certain it needs your help, such as if it is:
๐ฅ injured
๐ฅ definitely abandoned
๐ฅ definitely orphaned
Otherwise the best course of action is to leave the bird alone. If you think the fledgling may be in danger, it should be put in a safe place off the ground, ideally in a tree or shrub.
If possible, stay and watch the baby bird from a distance, preferably from inside. If you don't have time to sit and watch the bird, try to go back in a few hours to the place you saw it.
If it is still there, it is worth picking it up and bringing them to a vet clinic or contacting a wildlife shelter. ๐
