We couldn't resist a little bandage art for our delightful Jack Russell patient...and yes, he was patient 007 of the day! His chest bandage, applied post-surgery, morphed him into a suave, debonair spy doggo, charming all who saw him. Sadly, his requests for a puptini (shaken, not stirred) were not fulfilled (it was Dr Karen who decided to be all "Dr No" when faced with that request) :)
From Yamba....With Love!

The cat ward at Angourie Road Veterinary Surgery was designed with the utmost in cat comfort in mind. Firstly, the ward faces it's own private courtyard. We know from human medicine that patients heal better when they can see green spaces, so our feline friends get to gaze out upon a north-easterly private courtyard. The winter sun keeps them warm and snuggly, and our louvre windows allow air flow to enter their ward without passing through the rest of the clinic. This means cats have fresh air without any "doggy" smells, which reduces stress while they are in hospital.
Furthermore, our cat ward has feline-friendly pheromones diffusing through the space constantly, to further reduce stress.
Multiple levels within the cat condos mean that cats can eat on one level, have toileting facilities on another, and laze away their hospital stay in the hammock level. By giving cats what they need to be happy, we have less stressed patients.
Less stress means faster healing, less pain and better surgical and medical outcomes.
Every part of our recent renovations were carefully considered to emphasise patient care, client care and to support a positive and empowering working environment for our veterinary teams. Our architecture works to improve our patient outcomes and it is such a privilege to work in such a beautiful space...but of course it's all worth it for our happy and healthy cats and dogs!
If you would like to see our new spaces for yourself, come on in and see us at 14 Angourie Road, Yamba or give us a call to make an appointment on 6646 9966

Midnight snackies are the best snackies...
As many of you know, the clinics of the Lower Clarence offer a shared after hours service, with the on-call duty rotating between clinics.
This offers all of us a chance to be able to be home with our families and have downtime to rest, rejuvenate and be ready and present to care for your animals the rest of the time.
At Angourie Road Veterinary Surgery, our current on-call night is Monday. Sita is always a fan of when we are at the surgery all night, because it means an endless supply of midnight snackies for her. Just check out the anticipatory drool-drip!!
If you have an emergency out of normal hours, always call the clinic first on 6646 9966, and the answering machine will let you know who is on call at that time.
Yogi at Angourie Road Veterinary Surgery
This is Yogi, possibly the luckiest Jack Russell Terrier in the Clarence.
Yogi's mum instantly recognised that there was something amiss when he came staggering out of the bush, vomiting and looking disorientated. She immediately rushed him into Angourie Road Veterinary Surgery, calling ahead to let us know she was on the way. Fortunately, as she had called ahead and expertly described Yogi's symptoms, we had a high suspicion of snake bite and Dr Karen and nurse Rylie were able to get the treatment room ready for him...including the vital snake antivenom.
Clinical examination and blood tests confirmed everyone's worst fears - Yogi had tangled with a snake, his blood was not clotting and he was in deep trouble.
We started him on IV fluids, administered snake antivenom and supportive drugs, and settled in for a very, very long night. There were a number of times at which Yogi's breathing was compromised, and periods of time that Dr Karen had to ventilate him (literally breathing for him). It is in these cold and desperate hours of the morning that medicine starts to be supplemented with prayers. For those who know Yogi, they will know to whom those entreaties were sent, and we're very grateful for the extra heavenly help.
Dr Giorgia took over Yogi's care early the next day, and together with our beautiful and dedicated nurses, we tag-teamed doctors and nurses and all cared for Yogi round the clock for the next four days. It was extraordinary when this patient, who previously had been paralysed and unable to blink or even breathe, started licking food from a syringe. Even more extraordinary was his discharge from hospital into the arms of his human chilidren, as he strutted and tail-wagged his way out the door.
Well done Yogi. You are an absolute fighter. We never gave up because you didn't either. And for the love of all that is good...don't you dare make this an annual snakebite, mate. We know you're a Jack Russell, but leave the dangernoodles alone
Our Queen demands chin rubs and we must comply...which means we need more team members!
Angourie Road Veterinary Surgery currently has openings for Cert IV trainees, veterinary nurses and reception staff.
Our gorgeous new (huge!) premises and our increase in veterinarians means we're building up our team, and we're looking for people that fit with our core values of compassionate care, kindness, humility, education, collaboration and excellence.
