🐶🐶Chocolate Easter eggs are yummy for us but not good for our beloved pets🐶🐶

Some quick facts about chocolate toxicity:
🍫 Chocolate is toxic because it contains two key ingredients - caffeine and theobromine
🍫 The darker and more bitter the chocolate is the more toxic it is - so dark chocolate is more toxic than milk chocolate
🍫 Signs of chocolate toxicity include vomiting, diarrhoea, cardiac arrhythmias, tremors and seizures
🍫 Even if your dog doesn’t immediately show signs of chocolate toxicity, chocolate is high in fat which can predispose pets to conditions such as pancreatitis

What should I do if I suspect my pet has eaten some chocolate?
📞 Contact your local veterinarian/emergency veterinary clinic and they can advise you on the next steps
🧑‍⚕️ Your pet might need to see a vet to make them vomit, and depending on the level of toxicity, they may require additional treatment such as fluids, and/or activated charcoal.

As self-groomers, cats do a great job of keeping themselves clean. But all that hair they groom can collect in their stomachs.

What is a hairball?
A hairball is a by-product of your cat’s self-grooming. Also known as a furball, a hairball is simply a collection of dead hair and digestive juices that forms in your cat’s tummy. Vomiting hairballs occurs because your cat is either ingesting too much hair or she is unable to move the hair out of her stomach.

How to reduce hairballs in your cat:

Groom your cat regularly. Less loose fur on your cats body reduces the amount of fur which can be ingested. 🪮

Try cat food formulated for hairballs. If your cat brings up hairballs regularly, consider switching to a food specifically formulated to help reduce the issue. 🐈

Add more fiber. Just like humans, cats need fiber to maintain a healthy digestive tract. Speak to your vet about choosing a feed which is best formulated for this! 🩺

Discourage excessive grooming. Excessive grooming can be due to pain, anxiety, or other causes. Check with your vet if your cat is overgrooming. 💭

Use baby wipes. After brushing your cat, wipe them with a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic baby wipe.🧻

Increase water intake. If your cat eats dry food, their diet likely isn’t providing enough water to meet their hydration needs.💧

Traveling with Your Pet? Here’s What to Keep in Mind! ✈️🐾
Planning a trip with your furry friend? Make sure you’re prepared with these essential tips:

✅ Check Vaccination Status: Ensure all vaccinations are up to date — some destinations require proof of vaccines.

💊 Medications & Refills: Pack enough of your pet’s meds to last the entire trip, plus a little extra in case of delays.

🩹 First Aid Kit: Bring basics like bandages, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, and any pet-specific supplies.

📋 ID & Documents: Make sure your pet’s ID tag and microchip info are current. Don’t forget health records if needed!

🚰 Comfort & Hydration: Pack their favorite blanket, some toys, and a portable water bowl for comfort on the go.

A little preparation goes a long way for a smooth and stress-free trip! Safe travels! 🌍🐕🐈

Caring for Your Brachycephalic Dog 💖🐾
Flat-faced dogs, known as brachycephalic breeds, are cherished for their sweet, loyal nature and irresistibly cute expressions. However, their short noses and narrower airways make them more prone to breathing difficulties, especially in warmer weather. Since they aren’t very efficient at panting, it’s important to take extra care to keep them cool and comfortable.
Here are some helpful tips to ensure your furry friend stays happy and healthy:

🐾 Walk during cooler times: Opt for early morning or evening strolls when temperatures are lower.
🐾 Take it easy: Walk at a relaxed pace and offer plenty of breaks along the way.
🐾 Shorter outings: Consider splitting walks into two shorter sessions rather than one long one.
🐾 Harness over collar: Use a harness to prevent additional pressure on their sensitive airways.
🐾 Cooling solutions: Provide a cooling pad for them to lie on, helping to regulate their body temperature.
🐾 Indoor fun: If you’ve got the space, engage them in indoor games to keep them active while avoiding the heat.
A little extra care goes a long way in keeping your pup cool and content! 💗
