🚨 WA Sheep Exporters Deny Minister’s Feedlot Visit Request 🚨
WA sheep exporters have denied Agriculture Minister Julie Collins' request to visit a live export feedlot during her tour of Western Australia. Minister Collins has just announced an additional $32.7 million in funding, bringing the government’s total transition package to $139.7 million, aimed at helping the sheep industry move away from live export. 🐑
The Peel Feedlot, operated by Emanuel Exports, declined the visit, despite years of claimed reforms and animal welfare improvements in the industry. This leaves many wondering: if significant progress has been made to improve animal welfare in live export, why not demonstrate these achievements? 🤔
While the live sheep export ban by sea is part of the government’s plan to phase out cruel practices, we acknowledge the concerns of farmers who have worked hard to adapt. However, the future of farming doesn’t have to rely on live export. Humane, sustainable alternatives like the chilled meat trade offer a path forward that can benefit both animals and farmers.
As we move towards the 2028 ban, it’s important we remain committed to transparency, progress, and a compassionate future for our farming communities and the animals in their care.
🌱 Let’s keep pushing for a future without live export—where everyone benefits. 🌱
