Moving bees at night is a common practice in Australian beekeeping - our girls have finished pollinating Almonds and are now arriving on Canola.

Canola is a reliable agricultural crop that gives the girls an opportunity to build their colony strength, and us a chance to do some important health checks.

Almond pollination. It's a big job for all involved, but an important one. Almond trees rely 100% on bees to pollinate their flowers to produce Almonds 🌸🐝

Australia's largest livestock migration is underway this week, as billions of honey bees from across the country make the annual pilgrimage to the southern almond orchards.

Happy World Bee Day!
These little pollinators play a HUGE part in sustaining our environment and our food production...definitely something to celebrate!

Today is the day, World Bee Day 2021 is here πŸπŸ˜ƒπŸ’–

The purpose of World Bee Day is to raise awareness of the essential role bees and other pollinators play for food security and ecosystem health.

Slovenia was approved to proclaim 20 May as World Bee Day in 2017 by the United Nations. This date is significant as it is the birth date of Anton JanΕ‘a (1734–1773), a Slovenian beekeeper. He was considered to be the pioneer and great authority of modern beekeeping.

We are a first generation beekeeping family, helping our bees do what they do best!

We have always enjoyed country living and knew that we wanted to get into primary production. After starting with two beehives back in 2012, we discovered that beekeeping was the sweet spot where our individual training and experiences in rural science and business development could co-exist.

We are proud to be a first-generation beekeeping family and excited to raise our young family in an environment where they too can grow their appreciation for agriculture, the environment and be a part of our business.

A key focus of our vision for Queen of Hearts Honey Co. is to help our bees do what they do best. We do this by applying modern technologies and management techniques that support strong colonies. In doing so our bees are better able to manage pests and disease themselves and require less intervention by us.

We are a minimal migratory operation. This means we do not regularly move our bees to chase particular nectar flows. We feel this reduces the pressure on our bees, but is also good for our local flora; bees are responsible for the pollination of many of our local and native species.
