We are so lucky to have an amazing team of vets able to assist us whenever we are in need!
Beau had presented with lameness for a few days & Shayne found a very deep abscess which is now cleaned out, packed and wrapped (you can see Beau showing off the handy work).
As always a huge thank you to Shayne & Ryley from Gympie Veterinary Services 🙏

Hi all,
It’s been a while but I’m so glad to see you all still here. Hasn’t our world as we know it changed in the past 2 years. 🤔

Stay posted because we have some MAJOR EXCITING news coming up shortly.
A new chapter, full of horses and fun for 2022!

For those that don’t know, last year we tragically lost Christian Grey to a brain aneurysm. It was sudden and a shock to us all; it was enough to make me want to walk away from horses.

However from tragedy comes joy in the form of a lovely young thoroughbred gelding named ‘Geovanni’ who has helped me find my passion again.
He is in show prep and getting ready for his first season.
We will have some lovely horses coming up for sale throughout the year so make sure to turn on notifications for the page so you don’t miss out!

Here’s a photo of our lovely Geo for those who haven’t seen him yet.

Here’s to a stellar 2022, so give your pony a cuddle, get your bum in the saddle and enjoy! 🥰

Sometimes my job calls for a 5hr round trip to Kingaroy after a morning full of lessons to load a pony that didn’t want to come to the party for his new parents to take him home!
After hours of his new owners trying to load Cash on the float, I received a phone call asking if I could make the trip. Jumped in the car and off I go.
Locked and loaded in under 25 minutes.
No bum ropes, no gimmicks, just the use of a language the horse understands to let him know, ‘it’s really not so bad in the metal box’.

Now be a good boy for your new parents 🙈🙊

Help your horses stay adequately hydrated not only in winter but all year round by adding salt to their diet and ensuring they have access to clean water. 🦄

When horses drink cold water during winter, their bodies must expend additional calories to warm their tissues back up from the heat loss that is incurred, so they instinctively drink less. This can cause problems when hard feeding or feeding hay, it is recommended to try to encourage your horse to drink more water.
The water requirement is higher if the horse is in training, nursing a foal, growing or pregnant.

Let’s talk about the importance of relaxation.
We have our training scale (which applies to every discipline, not just dressage).
This scale starts with rhythm, suppleness, connection, impulsion, straightness with all of these working toward the end goal, being collection.
I truly and honestly believe there should be a new ‘step’ added right at the very beginning, which is so vital when training and required to achieve every single aspect of the pyramid.

‘Relaxation’
Without allowing the horse to be relaxed, we cannot attain correct rhythm. Some people will say suppleness is ‘relaxation’, however I disagree. Suppleness is the willingness of the body to move and bend as asked whilst remaining soft- which requires the horse to be relaxed however we cannot teach the horse how to be supple without first establishing how to be relaxed.

Your horse must learn that saddle time is a relaxing time where their mind can and body can be moulded. A horse who is tense and anxious cannot be expected to absorb what it is you a trying to teach them and will only end up being resistant in body and mind.

Spend time establishing relaxation with your horse. Help them find their ‘happy place’ where you aren’t fighting or arguing.
Help shape their mind so you may be allowed to shape their body.

Happy riding 🦄

Top: Christians 2nd long reining session back in Feb.
Bottom: Today’s long reining session.

Loving the difference in his muscling, willingness, confidence and his increased range of motion.

No rushing going on here. We are taking our sweet time to make sure this boy is not only physically ready for his ridden career but also mentally and emotionally ready. 👏

What a day spent with awesome people!
Some personal goals kicked right out of the ball park, some new faces and lots of familiar faces. I just LOVE helping people and their unicorns grow together 🤩
Time to unwind and do it all again tomorrow.

Love this analogy!

Love this analogy!

There is something I have been talking about a lot lately and that's lateral flexion.
I came across this photo and advice from Buck Brannaman and it is a perfect visualisation on what to look for.

Buck Brannaman talking about lateral flexion;
"Imagine a pebble tied on a string to your horse’s forelock. When he turns his head to the side the stone should be hanging plumb with the string and be even between his nostrils. He should not come so far to the side that his nose tips up and one ear is pointing at the ground."
Image of Buck and Reuben is by 'the7msnranch'

Why is this important?
Balance and alignment.
Sure the horse can bend around to your leg, he can scratch his ribcage, but this is standing still.
As soon as we move the horse at all if his head is over flexed and tilted he will find he is out of balance.
Another consideration is the alignment of the cervical spine itself and tension at the atlas joint ( poll)
With the ears level and head straight the bend of the neck can be smooth ( aligned on the curve )
If the head is tilted and twisted this will cause kinks in that alignment and a twisting pressure at the poll.

Examine your horse's position in lateral bend and help him to remain in alignment and in balance both at the halt and in his yields.

A massive well done to Amity & Lyra. In 2 lessons we’ve been able to establish more effective communication between horse and rider, while encouraging Lyra to work softly and willingly.
For a mare that refused to move forward, this is a massive step in the right direction and I can’t wait to watch this team grow together 👏😄👏😄👏😄
