Yay...5th March... Buttons is 🕯 today.
Happy birthday!

A little note to inform all that's living with one of our pups...there is a few, far and wide. All states in Australia. I was in awe of these little darling puppies catching a huge flight to all areas. Some trips 1 hr, some trips 2 days. They are so tuff, but loved that cuddle at the end of the journey. To start a new journey with their new families.

At the beginning of breeding 6 years ago. I would sit and explain to Lucy "puppy will be fine" I'd cry 30mins to the airport. Play and groom puppy waiting for the flight then off he'd go. Then i cried the whole way home as I'd said goodbye but then had to face mum Lucy and the gang.

I did get over that hurdle but it was heartbreaking. Costing a fortune in tissues.

I've had such a great humorous enjoyable time breeding little well adjusted happy gorgous puppies. Not all are perfect (who is) but they all are guaranteed cuddles and heart.

I have decided to stop breeding. My husband had a heart attack 3 weeks after the last litter (buttons 5/3/22) also with covid and the rate rises..job losses...buildings...etc etc. We were contemplating stopping before the litter, it was the straw that broke my back...not literally.

It's a hard decision to decide where the best way to go. I can't keep all, but I can't keep none. I've kept. Granma Lucy. Her daughters Misty and Penny.
Their daughters Pockets. Lolly and Buttons. So it's all family. Some of the older girls are rehomed to fantastic loving homes. Always in my heart. The same as my funny boys. super dooper Cooper. Isaac and Harley lives still here in Yeppoon, so he visits. Some even come for holidays.
It's been great. But I'm having a much needed rest. My hubby survived, a week from triple bypass he was mobbed by 14 pups. (2 litters) Buttons, Mochi and Maya are in there somewhere.

The next time you’re in your dog’s mouth (you do brush his or her teeth, right?) notice the bump on the roof of his mouth just behind the two front middle teeth? It’s called the ‘incisive papilla,” and near the center of it is a hole that leads to a duct that leads to the “Jacobson’s organ.” The Jacobson’s organ is a very cool thing. Put in “See Spot Run” terms, it allows your dog to literally taste the air by combining taste and smell.

Dogs use their Jacobson’s organ to experience sexual markers (pheromones) left behind by other dogs via urine, or when coming across the scent of a bitch in season. While dogs don’t have a Flehmen response seen in many other animals (throwing back the head, and raising or curling the upper lip which helps open the entry slits into Jacobson’s Organ), dogs will “chatter their teeth” instead. A dog might hold his mouth in a quasi-open position that looks a little like a grin, or he might even lick the air. And you thought he was just happy to see you.

One theory holds that the Jacobson’s Organ could account for a dog’s ability to identify and recognize other animals and people. It’s also believed that it’s this organ that enhances a newborn’s ability to find its mother.

please up date all your dogs for this, talk to your vet. my dogs are up dated.. im pretty sure the lepto can be passed by wild birds etc. now they are everywhere not just on acreage.

IMPORTANT AND VERY SAD NEWS 📢
This is Kevin, Kevin was recently in our care as he was very unwell and was subsequently diagnosed with Leptospirosis.
Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects animals and humans. It is caused by the Leptospira bacteria that is mainly spread through the urine of infected animals and in infected soils and waterways. Canine leptospirosis is a serious, life-threatening disease and unfortunately Kevin passed away despite treatment. 😔

So what does that mean for the dogs in our area?
We are now seeing more Lepto in our area and it is not only contagious to animals but also to humans. Thankfully, we have a vaccination against Lepto for dogs and in order to protect not only our furry companions but also ourselves and families it is recommended to keep your dogs up to date with this vaccine.
Here at QVCC we recommend all dogs be vaccinated against Leptospirosis which is included in our standard C7 vaccine.
If you are unsure of your dog’s vaccination status please give the clinic a call on 4808 2808 and we can get you booked in and on track to protecting your loved ones. 💛

Changes in behaviour, refusal to walk on slippery floors, reluctance to jump in the car and maybe not wanting to walk like they used to... deliberate disobedience or perhaps something else?

If your dog has changed behaviour, maybe they have stopped wanting to do something they have always enjoyed, or maybe they arent quite their normal happy self? It is a good time to ask why they are behaving this way and seek further help. Dogs cant tell us when they are uncomfortable, we have to look for the signs! Our dogs arent being deliberatley difficult, they need our support.

Learn to look beyond the behaviour and always ask why!

Be very vigilant, if unsure or need any info your vet or myself will be able to help.

It’s not the festive cheer we want to bring to our clients but it is an important announcement.
There have been some recent cases of Canine Parvovirus in the community.
If you are unsure of your pets vaccination status - give us a call and we can book you in to get your pal’s vaccinations up to date.
If you are getting a little puppy pal for Christmas make sure you follow correct vaccination protocols before they head out on the town!
Keep an eye out for common symptoms such as - vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, lethargy. If you are ever unsure - just call! 🐕

Don't buy these. A Xmas sock with empty water bottle in...says it all..Mrs cheapo. No...

A warning regarding the Christmas treats many stores are now starting to stock for dogs.

Many of these so-called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas.

The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes.

On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking.

The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

Please leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then throw them in the bin!

Please be safe with your dogs!
