Hey there, Sharon here.
In just five seconds, a dog's energy level can leap from a ONE to a NINE!
This instant change can make you feel, "Oh no, they're becoming rowdier! What do I do now?!"
You've probably used different strategies in the past: talking calmly to your dog, shouting at your dog, or even bribing them with treats.
But sometimes, nothing can seem to snap your dog out of this frenzy of excitement... or aggression.
In my years as a dog trainer, I've developed the most magical technique that rapidly calms down overly excited dogs.
(And yes, it still blows my mind to this day!)
It's a technique that chills them out... without force, without treats, without a lead, AND EVEN WITHOUT WORDS.
I call this technique The Calm Freeze.
To Calm a Dog Down Immediately, You Need the Calm Freeze
For a calm freeze to really be effective, it requires three things:
A fast-thinking dog owner
A gentle hold
And a really calm energy.
Let me tell you why.
#1: A Fast-Acting Dog Owner
The calm freeze is ideal for the barky, overexcited, stressed dog—and even for the dog who’s ready to maul!
And though I swear by the power of the calm freeze, YOU, dear dog owner, have a role to play... Don't wait too long to intervene when you see a spike in your dog's energy levels.
It's better to correct your dog's behavior before they become uncontrollable.
#2: A Gentle Hold
100% no force involved. Everything should be done with gentleness.
All you need to do is turn your hand over, grab the collar under your dog's neck, and hold still.
You don't need to say anything; your silence will be enough.
If your dog attempts to bite you, put them in timeout
#3: A Really Calm Energy
The calm freeze is really true to its name: the process should be done with absolute calmness. No shouting. No panicking. No frustrating body language.
Your dog GETS your energy more than your words.
And even though you want them to be calm, they'll remain overexcited, jittery, and anxious if they can feel you are.
If you do this in a Zen monk style, your dog will catch on and be calm in no time!
It’s the time of the year we all get a little stressed, hope this helps with your dog/pup.
Your dog looks up to you for leadership so show them a calm relaxed mood.
It works for you and them.
