Just an update from me regarding dog training and my knee replacement.
I had a screw taken out of my knee from a ligament repair in 1992, before they could do the replacement. I needed a bone graft as the screw left a big hole in my bone.
Been 6 weeks and I can finally get rid of crutches, I’m a bit unsteady on my legs but I will build the muscles back up. Can’t really do dog training as I could easily be knocked over at the moment.
My dogs have learnt to be gentle with me but a very happy, wagging tail across the knee is painful.
I will let you know when I can get into training again. 🐾

Doctors have me on crutches for 6 weeks. Had to do a bone graft where a screw was taken out of my knee. 50% weight bear 6 weeks.
Once I get the ok I’m out training. ❤️ 🐾

Just to let you know I am going in for a knee replacement on the 4/2/2025 so I will be unable to train dogs for a little while. Until I get my muscles back up I will deal with smaller to medium dogs. Larger dogs once I’m fully recovered.
I hope you understand. You can still book in.

Come on Google I changed my address updated everything and you still say my business is in Emerald. Sorry to all the Emerald people calling me for training your dog. I moved to Yeppoon just over 2 years ago. I can still help with follow ups by phone or SMS, but nearly all of the humans and dogs I trained picked up quickly the new rules they put in place. As I teach you to understand your dog personality so you can be a step ahead of the boundaries they want to push.
They asked if I can FaceTime or zoom but I can’t see or feel the reactions to what the owners do with the dogs.

My little puppy in my profile picture is now 6 years old, our Manx cat Wally is 5 years old. They are best mates, can you tell.
Yes you can train your cats and dogs to get on together.

I have a lot of people ask me is my dog trainable, can you fix it.
The answer is yes but you have to be consistent in your reactions and don’t slack off.
Dogs are like kids, give them an inch and they will take a mile.
Boundaries for the dog and habits can be changed by you just doing a little change.
Let’s face it I train people, if you want a dog to do something this is what the human needs to do. Repeat and praise.
A lot of people forget to praise as they are in shock, he did it. A dog likes to please you.
Every dog is different. Some like a praise of a play, some like food, some like a pat and ones like it said to them good dog. Also watch the tones of your voice.
A recall can be trained on a long lead. Puppies come to a very high pitch call that’s exciting and you can run the other way so they will follow. Another mistake is every time you call them don’t put them on a lead or take them away from having fun. Call them, praise and release so they can still play. My release word is “ ok “.
You don’t make training command words long - sit, stay, wait, drop, leave, move away and stand. You can put hand signals with these so when you are out of ear shoot you can do hand signals to come or sit.
You have to help your best mate to understand what you want them to do.

Sad day yesterday, had to make the hard decision to put my cat of 18 years asleep. As a dog trainer I also help introduce cats to the family. My Ginger Ninja, Puddy was like a dog, came when you called, sat with you and loved his food.
He was in kidney failure and I couldn’t watch him in pain. ❤️
My dogs are greiving and looking for him so it’s lots of cuddles today. I did show them he was gone but dogs like us suffer grief.
Photos in tribute.

Made me cry as the owners made the pup/dog do the things he did. It was fun as a puppy but not as a dog. Games you play with your pup remember they grow and don’t know the difference between your go out clothes you wear to yard clothes if you teach them to jump on you. Also little kids will get knocked down. Owners sometimes , not knowing, create the problem.
I can help change the habits in a gentle way, as your dog understands the rules.

Just a reminder.

Hey there, Sharon here.
In just five seconds, a dog's energy level can leap from a ONE to a NINE!
This instant change can make you feel, "Oh no, they're becoming rowdier! What do I do now?!"
You've probably used different strategies in the past: talking calmly to your dog, shouting at your dog, or even bribing them with treats.
But sometimes, nothing can seem to snap your dog out of this frenzy of excitement... or aggression.
In my years as a dog trainer, I've developed the most magical technique that rapidly calms down overly excited dogs.
(And yes, it still blows my mind to this day!)
It's a technique that chills them out... without force, without treats, without a lead, AND EVEN WITHOUT WORDS.
I call this technique The Calm Freeze.

To Calm a Dog Down Immediately, You Need the Calm Freeze
For a calm freeze to really be effective, it requires three things:
A fast-thinking dog owner
A gentle hold
And a really calm energy.
Let me tell you why.

#1: A Fast-Acting Dog Owner
The calm freeze is ideal for the barky, overexcited, stressed dog—and even for the dog who’s ready to maul!
And though I swear by the power of the calm freeze, YOU, dear dog owner, have a role to play... Don't wait too long to intervene when you see a spike in your dog's energy levels.
It's better to correct your dog's behavior before they become uncontrollable.

#2: A Gentle Hold
100% no force involved. Everything should be done with gentleness.
All you need to do is turn your hand over, grab the collar under your dog's neck, and hold still.
You don't need to say anything; your silence will be enough.
If your dog attempts to bite you, put them in timeout

#3: A Really Calm Energy
The calm freeze is really true to its name: the process should be done with absolute calmness. No shouting. No panicking. No frustrating body language.
Your dog GETS your energy more than your words.
And even though you want them to be calm, they'll remain overexcited, jittery, and anxious if they can feel you are.
If you do this in a Zen monk style, your dog will catch on and be calm in no time!

It’s the time of the year we all get a little stressed, hope this helps with your dog/pup.
Your dog looks up to you for leadership so show them a calm relaxed mood.
It works for you and them.
