We are always super excited to learn new techniques and increase our offerings to clients. Recently we invested in the machinery and kits to offer Alpha 2 Macroglobulin to our equine clients.
Alpha 2 Macroglobulin is part of the bodies innate immune system, functioning by decreasing inflammation (inhibiting pro inflammatory cytokines). We isolate this using a special kit and centrifuge to extract it from the horse’s own blood. The platelet poor plasma containing the glycoprotein Alpha 2 Macroglobulin, is then injected into joints and other sites around the body to combat inflammation, especially osteoarthritis. Because there is no steroid involved multiple joints can be treated simultaneously.
