"My cat is getting older, how should I adjust her diet to keep her healthy?"
"As cats age, their nutritional needs change. Senior cats often require fewer calories to prevent weight gain, but they still need high-quality protein to maintain muscle mass. Consider switching to a senior-specific formula that includes joint-supporting nutrients like glucosamine and chondroitin, as well as antioxidants for immune support. Always ensure your cat stays hydrated, as older cats are prone to kidney issues. If you notice any weight loss or gain, consult your vet for tailored dietary advice.”
**Tip:** *Routine vet check-ups are crucial for monitoring your senior cat’s health and adjusting their diet as needed. Proper nutrition can help your cat enjoy their golden years to the fullest.*

Do you know how to reduce your pet’s risk of heatstroke?

Heatstroke occurs when an animal's body temperature rises above the normal range (usually above 103° F or 39° C). As summer temperatures rise, it's crucial to keep our furry friends safe and cool. Heatstroke can have serious and potentially fatal effects. Most important, if you suspect your pet has heatstroke contact your vet immediately.

Here are some tips to help prevent heatstroke in your pets:

▪️ Know the Signs: Watch for excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, and difficulty breathing.

▪️ Know Your Pet's Needs: Certain breeds are more susceptible to heat

▪️ Provide Plenty of Water: Ensure your pet always has access to fresh, cool water

▪️ Shade and Shelter: Create a shaded area where your pet can escape the sun.

▪️ Avoid Midday Walks: Walk your pet during early morning or late evening

▪️ Never Leave Pets in Cars: Even with windows cracked, temperatures can soar quickly.

▪️ Cool Down Techniques: Use damp towels and fans to help regulate their temperature

Keep your pets safe this summer!

Did you know that microchipping your dog may be a lifesaver? 🐾
Here are some tips on microchips!
Microchips are about the size of a grain of rice and are implanted just beneath the skin, usually between the shoulder blades.
Each microchip has a unique ID number that can be read by a special scanner. This ID is linked to your contact information in a database.
Unlike collars and tags, microchips are permanent and can’t be lost or removed.
Microchipping significantly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, dogs with microchips are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners compared to those without.
It’s a quick and simple procedure that can be done during a routine vet visit. Most pets don’t even feel it!
🐾 Keep your furry friend safe and sound. If your dog isn’t microchipped yet, consider getting it done today! 🐾

Thinking of keeping reptiles as pets? Here are some fascinating facts and tips to ensure they thrive in your care!
Dietary Needs: Reptiles have varied diets. Some are carnivores, others herbivores, and some omnivores. Research the specific dietary requirements of your reptile to ensure they get the right nutrients.
Temperature Control: Reptiles are ectothermic, meaning they rely on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature. Make sure to provide a heat lamp or heating pad in their habitat.
Habitat Size: Provide ample space for your reptile to move around. Overcrowding can lead to stress and health issues. A general rule is to have a tank at least twice as long as your reptile.
Regular Vet Visits: Just like any other pet, reptiles need regular check-ups. Find a vet who specializes in exotic pets to ensure your reptile's health and well-being.

Rabbits’ incisors grow throughout their lifetime and are normally worn down when they eat. However, in cases of misalignment/malocclusion of the incisors the teeth do not wear down and continue to grow.
Does your bunny show any of these signs?
Signs of dental disease in rabbits can include :
- reduced/loss of appetite (anorexia)
- swelling of the jaw
- hypersalivation
- inability to fully close the mouth
- bulging of the eye can occur if the tooth roots invade the orbit
Thisbefore and after shows the impact to the animal and the results when the teeth were trimmed to a suitable length.

Keeping your pets lean can significantly boost their lifespan. This is because maintaining a healthy weight in pets helps prevent obesity-related diseases like diabetes and heart disease, improves mobility and joint health, supports organ function, enhances immune system strength, and promotes better respiratory health. To ensure your pet stays lean and healthy, prioritize regular exercise, appropriate portion sizes, a balanced diet, and routine veterinary check-ups.

Here are five essential tips for dental care for dogs:

Regular Brushing: Just like humans, dogs benefit greatly from regular brushing. Use a dog-specific toothbrush and toothpaste to gently brush your dog's teeth at least 2-3 times a week, if not daily. Start slowly, allowing your dog to get used to the process, and gradually increase the frequency.

Dental Chews and Toys: Providing your dog with dental chews and toys designed to promote dental health can help reduce plaque and tartar buildup. Look for products that have a texture specifically designed to clean teeth and massage gums. Avoid items that are too hard, as they may cause tooth damage.

Regular Dental Check-ups: Schedule regular dental check-ups with your veterinarian. Professional dental cleanings are essential for maintaining your dog's oral health. Your vet can identify any dental issues early on and provide appropriate treatment.

Balanced Diet: A balanced diet contributes to overall dental health in dogs. Avoid feeding your dog excessive amounts of sugary treats or human foods that can stick to their teeth and promote decay. Opt for high-quality dog food that supports dental health.

Monitor for Signs of Dental Problems: Be vigilant for signs of dental problems in your dog, such as bad breath, swollen or bleeding gums, difficulty chewing, or changes in eating habits. If you notice any of these symptoms, consult your veterinarian promptly for evaluation and treatment.

By following these tips and maintaining good dental hygiene practices, you can help ensure your dog's teeth and gums stay healthy throughout their life.

The symptoms of parvovirus (parvo) in dogs can vary depending on the severity of the infection, but commonly include:

• Severe diarrhea - often bloody with a distinct odor.
• Loss of appetite - dogs may lose interest in food and water.
• Vomiting - dogs may vomit frequently, can cause dehydration.
• Dehydration – may cause sunken eyes, dry gums, and lethargy.
• Lethargy - may appear weak, tired
• Fever: parvo may have a high temperature.
• Abdominal pain: may show discomfort in this area
• Rapid weight loss - due to diarrhea and vomiting
• Weakness: may become progressively weaker.
• Collapse - in severe cases, dogs may be too weak to move

It's important to note that not all dogs will display every symptom, and the severity of symptoms can vary. Additionally, puppies and unvaccinated dogs are at higher risk of developing severe symptoms if infected with parvovirus. If you suspect your dog may have parvovirus, it's crucial to seek veterinary care immediately, as prompt treatment greatly improves the chances of recovery.

This is a well-known risk among dog owners, but how much do you really know about Parvovirus?
Commonly referred to as parvo, this highly contagious viral infection primarily affects dogs, particularly puppies. It is caused by the canine parvovirus (CPV), which attacks rapidly dividing cells in the body, particularly those in the gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow.
Prevention of parvovirus involves vaccination. Puppies are typically vaccinated against parvovirus as part of their core vaccination schedule, starting at around 6 to 8 weeks of age and continuing with booster shots until they are around 16 weeks old. Additionally, adult dogs may require periodic booster vaccinations to maintain immunity.
Treatment of parvovirus is primarily supportive and aims to manage the symptoms and complications of the infection. This often involves hospitalization, intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration, antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections, anti-nausea medications, and sometimes blood transfusions in severe cases.
Prompt veterinary care is crucial for improving the chances of survival, as parvovirus can be fatal, especially in young puppies or dogs with compromised immune systems.
