𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬:
An Extreme emergency 11 month old male cat brought at our clinic carrying a 10 inch Iron rod into his abdomen with bleeding, pain and restlessness with respiratory distress.

𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
-- Perforating wound attached with iron rod
-- Bleeding
-- Extreme pain
-- Restlessness
-- Moderate dehydration

𝐗-𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
On radiography examination. the iron rod perforating from abdomen through chest cavity (12th intercostal space) dorsally.

𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭:
The rod was removed aseptically and opened chest cavity closed accordingly. the abdominal wound and internal injuries managed through surgical intervention.

𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬:
A 11 month old intact male cat was presented at our clinic showing sign of straining to urinate but can’t from last 2 days followed by distended abdomen, anorexia, calm and depressed.

𝐏𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
-- Urine filled distended bladder palpable during abdominal palpation
-- Balanitis (Inflammation of g***s p***s)
-- Mucus plug from pe**le urethra
-- Moderate dehydration

𝐗-𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
After complete physical examination we decided to go for radiography. Finally X-ray reveled crystals in the urinary bladder.

𝐓𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
A sterile 130 mm × 1.3 mm (FG 4) open-ended tomcat catheter is then inserted through pe**le urethra to bladder. Approximately 120 ml blood mixed urine was sucked out directly from the bladder.

𝐓𝐈𝐏𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐌𝐒:
1. Ensure your cats have access to fresh drinking water.
2. Ensure your cats have opportunities to urinate frequently.
3. Provide extra litter boxes in multi-cat families, at different parts of the house and keep the boxes clean.
4. Discuss with your vet about special diets to prevent stone formation.
5. Keep your pets trim.
6. Overweight pets are more prone to urinary problems and other diseases.

A cesarean (C-section) is a surgical procedure in which unborn kittens are surgically removed from the mother cat’s uterus. It is performed when an animal is having problems while delivering the newborns and is typically an emergency (not an elective) surgery. For certain breeds prone to dystocia (difficult birth), such as Persians, a cesarean may be planned.

Sometimes, the pet can also be spayed following the surgical removal of the kittens. This prevents future pregnancies and eliminates the risk of future cesarean surgeries.

Follicular cysts are fluid-filled structures that develop within the o***y and result in prolonged secretion of estrogen, continuous signs of estrus (heat), and attractiveness to males. Ovulation may not occur during this abnormal estrous cycle. Follicular cysts should be suspected in any female cat continuously showing signs of estrus (heat) for more than 21 days. This can sometimes be difficult to differentiate from normal, frequent cycles.
The most commonly recommended treatment is spaying (removal of the ovaries and uterus), which is curative.

A secondary infection that occurs because of hormonal changes in the female's reproductive tract. Following estrus or ‘heat’, progesterone levels remain elevated for several weeks, stimulating the uterine lining to thicken in preparation for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur for several estrus cycles, the lining continues to increase in thickness until cysts form in the uterus. This condition is called cystic endometrial hyperplasia.

Pyometra usually occurs two to eight weeks after the last estrus or the heat cycle.

The preferred treatment is to surgically remove the uterus and ovaries (Spaying)
