3rd April, 1899

April 3, 1899, marks the inception of the German Shepherd Dog breed. It was on this day that Max von Stephanitz came across a male dog, named Hektor Linksrhein, at a dog show at Hanover. Subsequently, the dog's name was altered to Horand von Grafrath, who garnered the distinction of being the very first registered GSD and widely acclaimed as the "father of the breed." Von Stephanitz founded the breed club - the SV and introduced the breed registry, facilitating the breed's proliferation in popularity. Presently, the German Shepherd Dog breed holds a preeminent position as one of the most cherished breeds worldwide.
