Re**al prolapses can occur from intusussception, intestinal obstruction, intestinal masses, chronic straining, or severe diarrhea. Re**al prolapse is more common than intestinal prolapse. Re**al prolapse can be identified as a tubular structure devoid of longitudinal folds, centrally located within the cloaca.

What does it mean when a bird prolapse?

Cloacal prolapse or vent prolapse is a condition where the inner tissues of the cloaca protrude (hang out) from the vent, exposing the intestines, cloaca or uterus. The is the part of the bird's body which stores urates, f***s, urine and egg.

How do you treat re**al prolapse in birds?

Slowly release pressure on the bird and the area. This should now stay inside the bird, keep and eye on the area, wipe off with an antiseptic ointment and allow the feathers to dry. It might stick out again and retract again, Do not leave it out, if it continues seek an Avian Vet (If possible) and have it sorted out immediately.

Can you push a prolapse back into place?

In some cases, the prolapse can be treated at home. The re**um must be pushed back inside manually. A soft, warm, wet cloth is used to apply gentle pressure to the mass to push it back through the a**l opening.
