Our Story

This page is for people who choose to think about the feelings of their horse and do not use abusive methods in training and riding. Horse friendly riding and horse well fare are close to my heart. I come from a ‘traditional’ horse background of the dressage and jumping worlds where the human is the boss and the horse has to obey, pretty much without questions asked. I have always loved horses more than anything and always hated violence but I am also a human and especially sometimes in the past when I would run out of skill or patience, that is when the frustration would kick in and the horse unfortunately is an easy target to unleash any frustrations. It was not until I was faced with a horse that was so defensive he was very dangerous to handle that I realised it is not ok to appear as a threat to your horse and even if you are not causing physical harm, the threat of it can also be very harmful, depending on the horse of course. This one had always been handled with violence and even though I was never violent toward him, seeing other people do that to him and him once trying to attack me while lounging, it first made me not go near him for a long while. But something changed in me and I understood that I would have to gain the trust of this horse and let him know that I was never going to be a threat to him no matter what. This changed everything for us and we had an amazing relationship for a little while. Unfortunately there is no happy ending to that story as I stopped working with horses shortly after. However this kick started a journey in me that I am still on, and hopefully after 10 plus years, still in the beginning. Advocating for non violence in the horse world. I have studied learning theory and other horse well being related subjects and am a proud owner of my own little (big) spirit horse called Iroline. Here you will see some pictures of us and other horse well being related posts! This page started long ago as a page for bitless bridles, but I now feel it is time to expand the scope and have another place to share experiences and thought about our beloved horses and ponies.
