The Summer chafer (Amphimallon solstitiale) is very similar to the cockchafer, but slightly smaller. The beetle is light brown and completely covered with light hairs. The elytra are translucent, revealing the folded hindwings underneath. The larvae are called grubs, just like the cockchafer.

De junikever (Amphimallon solstitiale) lijkt sterk op de meikever, maar is iets kleiner. Hij is lichtbruin en volledig bedekt met lichte haren. De dekschilden zijn doorschijnend waardoor de opgevouwen achtervleugels eronder zichtbaar zijn. De larven worden engerlingen genoemd, net zoals bij de meikever.

My first ever European fallow deer (D. Dama).

Had some trouble putting the premaxilla back in place but my lovely mom came to the rescue, as usual😅

Nothing goes to waste:

Occasionally I'm not happy with the outcome of a pinned butterfly but instead of throwing it away, it gets stored in a box for later use.

Sometimes I put them in mini terraria or in this case I rearranged them and attached them to the back of a mice to make some sort of mythological creature.

New Lupercalia candle🌸

Lupercalia was an ancient pagan festival held each year in Rome on February 15. Although Valentine’s Day shares its name with a martyred Christian saint, some historians believe the holiday is actually an offshoot of Lupercalia. Unlike Valentine’s Day, however, Lupercalia was a bloody, violent and sexually charged celebration awash with animal sacrifice, random matchmaking and coupling in the hopes of warding off evil spirits and infertility.

A brief history on 'The Jackalope':

A Jackalope is a mythological creature that is characterized as having the body of a rabbit and the antlers of an antelope. 

Douglas and Ralph Herrick, two brothers, were the first to *discover* the jackalope in 1932.

They'd only gotten a bit of experience through a few taxidermy classes and reading some taxidermy catalogs.

“We just threw the dead jack rabbit in the shop when we came in and it slid on the floor right up against a pair of deer horns we had in there,” Ralph said. ”It looked like that rabbit had horns on it.”

Through an 'accidental' melding of the “jack” from “jack rabbit” and the antlers of an antelope, the jackalope was born.
