A Heavenly Petplace

A Heavenly Petplace Our Story

The most important element in our life and work is “animal dignity”. Our animals live free in an enclosed territory.

No animal should be locked up in a cage but unfortunately for most refuges this is the only way to provide any chance of a better future. If it is just a temporary solution, limited in time, for young and healthy animals, the effect is often not too bad. For those with poor health, disabilities or old age, such a forced stay can be his or her death. Especially cats are very vulnerable to stress an

d this can lead to serious illness and even result in an untimely death. Often, it is precisely these animals that have to spend a long time waiting for a new home, only increasing the chance of a sad ending. It is precisely the homely atmosphere we offer that means a lot for the elderly and the disabled animals. Another benefit of living with the animals lies in the intimate knowledge and the rapid detection of any problems. Any change in behavior or medical condition is immediately noticed, allowing a timely intervention to prevent further deterioration. Our garden is fenced off, including a slanted top section, so all our feline friends stay safely inside. Inside this enclosure they have multiple outhouses at their disposal, kitted out specifically for them and heated during the colder months. A lot of the more frightful animals who like their privacy find a safe haven there. Their more social counterparts can and will seek our company and find a good spot in our sunny porch or another cozy place in the house. Every resident is given all the care needed to recover, heal or just enjoy his or her pension. Cost nor effort is spared, as long as an animal can live it’s life with dignity, we will continue to provide all the help we can. If the time should come when joy has been replaced with suffering and no more help is possible, we will take our responsibility and help one more time by letting him or her pass away quietly, preferably at Home. Het zijn enorm drukke tijden in onze opvang. We zitten momenteel met dik 100 spinners en de kittens maar ook de seniordiertjes blijven toestromen. Natte voeding om al deze hongerige maagjes te vullen is elke maand een grote hap uit … Lees verder →

LUCKY ORANGE AND MARJO
The family who already adopted Justine, Bieber, blind Harry and Isis had to say goodbye to the last two, which were already of a respectable age when they were adopted. Nevertheless, this family wanted to pamper them for the time left.

After a difficult period they were ready to open their heart to a new cat. We have a lot of cats looking for a happy home, so it was difficult to list a few that would fit into their family.

When the family arrived, blind Orange woke up immediately when hearing their voices. He was looking for attention and they instantly fell in love with him.

Blind Orange loves outdoor life and the family has a protected garden, so this was the perfect match. The family also decided to give Marjo a loving home.

JESSIE GOES SHIATSU
Jessie is staying with us for more than six months now. She’s got numerous accupuncture treatments and we were euphoric when she started to move her tail and could stand on her feet when we helped her upright. Walking is still not possible, but this brave girl doesn’t give up. We consulted a specialised vet and he advised us to motivate her to walk wearing a harness.

One of our volunteers suggested to try shiatsu. We consulted a specialist for Jessie’s treatment, which is expensive, but in Jessie’s best interest we want to go for it.

Financial help to support the costs of Jessie’s treatment is more than welcome. You can become Jessie’s godmother/godfather or make a donation. The cost of the shiatsu treatment is 150 Euros.

We are also looking for people who would like to help her walk with her harness on. She needs to have a 10 minute walk, 3 times a day, which is not obvious for us. If you would like to help Jessie, please send an email to [email protected].

Fingers crossed for Jessie!

BRAVE NOSE
Nose needed nose surgery once again. He has been operated for more than twelve times now. His nose was very swollen and a final cure seems nonexistent. But Nose doesn’t want to give up! Although he is 19 years old and suffering from dementia, he is always happy and enjoys life every day.

Nose is looking for a godmother/godfather who is willing to give him some financial support. Who wants to help this lovely boy? For more information: https://www.hetdierenthuisje.be/helpen/meter-peterschap/
