How to perform a proper hydroalcoholic hand rub?
Hospital acquired infections are a tremendous burden on the practice of medicine, also in the veterinary field. Since hands have been recognized as major contributors to the transmission of disease, the importance of proper hand hygiene in healthcare became clear. The World Health Organization has developed guidelines for when to perform an act of hand sanitation during patient care. This has been adapted to veterinary care and hand hygiene should be performed before and after each patient contact, before a clean/aseptic act, after contact with body fluids and after touching the patient’s surroundings. Not only the moments of when to perform an act of hand hygiene are important, but also the technique.
Our online FREE video course explains the technique for a proper handrub. Do not miss it!

Pre-surgical hand preparation has long been recognized as a key element in the fight against surgical site infections. Considering the high incidence of glove punctures correct disinfection of the hands is mandatory in every procedure. Methods for hand disinfection have evolved over the decades and currently, correct hand disinfection is performed by the use of hydro-alcoholic solution rubs. This video provides a description of the different steps needed to perform correct pre-surgical hand preparation according to present guidelines.
