Sustainability milestone in Gaffney! 🇺🇸

Our production facility in USA completed its first independently calculated carbon footprint. In 2024, their scope 1 and 2 emissions were equivalent to 1.082 metric tons of CO₂. 💚
The focus of this carbon footprint calculation was the consumption of combustion fuels, electricity, and refrigerants.

This baseline sets the foundation for measurable progress and transparent reporting.

Starting in January, we’ll launch the 2025 carbon footprint study to track trends and accelerate improvements.

Guess who popped by Moderna today? 🤩
St. Nicholas made his annual stop, and just like every year, he didn’t come empty-handed. From our offices to the production floor, our team received a sweet little treat filled with chocolate and sweets. 🍫

The smiles were pretty much impossible to hide. 🤭

On Tuesday, 18 November, the 24th edition of the Belgian Awards for Sustainability Reports took place, organised by the Belgian Institute of Registered Auditors (IBR – IRE). For more than 25 years, the IBR has been rewarding organisations that publish 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 based on the well-known ESG criteria (environmental, social and governance).

At Moderna, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. On 1 May 2025, we published 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭, a project that required significant time and energy, and one we’re truly proud of. That’s why we decided to take a chance and submit our report for the Award in the category ‘Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) & other organisations’.

The winners were announced during an inspiring and insightful ceremony with great networking vibes all around. A big congrats to bematrix, who took home the Award in our category!

We’re already gearing up for our third report. With all the tips and insights we picked up during the ceremony, we’re aiming to take our next sustainability report to an even higher level. 💪🍀

While the world is looking for discounts today, we are sticking to our thoughtful, sustainable approach.

Pets don't need ten versions of the same thing. They need one good, reliable product that lasts a long time. 🐾

So today, we're shining a light on our sustainable products made with intention, products that last longer and reduce waste by simply doing their job well. Choosing greener isn't complicated. It's practical. It's thoughtful. And honestly? It's just the way we've always done things at Moderna. 💙

At Moderna Belgium, energy efficiency is a core part of our sustainability strategy. 💚

Excess heat from production? Reused to warm our buildings.
Solar panels? Over 6,000 installed on our roof, generating 30% of our consumed energy, that’s 6.90 GWh produced since installation in August 2022. 💡

And the impact speaks for itself:

- We’ve saved enough energy to reuse or recycle around 1.22 billion 1-liter plastic bottles.

- The CO₂ we avoided would take almost 680 cars off the road for a full year.

- Our green impact represents a forest of 4,480 trees, enough to cover 1,800 football fields. 🌳

Last year, these numbers were already impressive: 815 million bottles, 450 cars, 1,200 football fields, and this year we’ve gone even further! Every number tells the same story: progress, growth, and a commitment to a greener future 🌍💙

Alex finishes the New York City Marathon! 🇺🇸🏃‍♂️

You read that right! Last week, Alex ran the TCS New York City Marathon, one of the biggest and most famous marathons in the world, right in New York City. And he completed it successfully! 👏 Let’s give a big round of applause for this amazing achievement!

🎃 Throwback to Halloween in the USA! 🇺🇸

Team Gaffney brought the Halloween spirit to life with a Trunk or Treat celebration that had everyone smiling! 👻 From bouncy castles to a food truck serving candy apples, cotton candy, funnel cakes and more 🍭 there was something sweet for everyone.

Our colleagues went all out decorating their car trunks, while kids trick-or-treated from car to car. Games like bowling, corn hole, limbo, and pin the nose on the witch kept the laughter going all day long! 🎉

🧡 Huge thanks to everyone who joined, we loved seeing all the smiles and spooky outfits!
