💯I am beyond proud to share my heart and soul through my own bred eventing horses. It’s a journey that requires endless patience, dedication, and unwavering hard work. Not just from me, but from everyone who plays a part in making this possible. From the early days of foaling to the rigorous training and eventual competition, every step is a testament to the commitment of everyone involved.

To see these horses not only thriving in the pasture and in the future eventing competitions but also featured in magazines is something I hold close to my heart. As a breeder, you form a unique bond with these animals, watching them grow and evolve into the incredible athletes they are becoming. It’s not just about the results. It’s about the incredible family we’ve built together!

A huge thank you to my team, my family, and the amazing support system around me. I couldn’t do this without you all. I’m so incredibly proud of this journey and what we’ve achieved. Here's to the next chapter with this truly special family of horses!

Starting groundwork with a green horse is an exciting and crucial step toward building trust and communication.

This week, we began the journey with some basic groundwork exercises for our own bred and owner s horses; haltering, leading, and desensitizing to pressure. These simple yet important steps lay the foundation for a solid relationship, teaching the horse respect for boundaries while also building confidence.

It's all about patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement! Looking forward to seeing how these young ones develop and build trust over time.

Thank you to Mieke Devos for the really Nice pictures of Ruby (Penelope Sleipnir aa from baudouinvandenbrande x Marits Mistique) and me. 🌟

🐎 Warm-up time at your next competition! 🐎

A proper warm-up isn’t just about getting the muscles ready. It’s about connecting with your horse and setting the tone for the whole go-to time. Here are a few tips to make the most of your warm-up:

1️⃣Start slow: Begin with some relaxed walking and trotting to help loosen up your horse’s muscles.

2️⃣Stretching is key: Incorporate lateral movements like leg yields or serpentines to gently stretch those muscles and improve flexibility.

3️⃣ Build up rhythm: Gradually increase the pace as you and your horse find your groove. A steady rhythm is crucial before jumping into more intense work.

4️⃣ Mind the mind: Take a moment to bond with your horse. A calm, focused rider helps create a calm, focused horse.

‼️Remember, a great warm-up sets the stage for a successful competition or exercise competition get away! Let’s make every stride count. 💪

🌟 Preparing green horses for their first show.

Training young horses in preparation for their first show is a journey of patience, consistency, and trust. Every day is an opportunity to build confidence and skills, both in the arena and on the ground. It’s not just about teaching them the basics—it’s about creating a positive experience that sets them up for success in the ring. 💪

From the first walk-trot transitions to schooling over jumps, we focus on making each lesson enjoyable and stress-free. Their first steps trainings are balanced with moments of relaxation, allowing our horses to absorb new information at their own pace. We introduce showday routines early, from getting used to tack and show attire to practicing entering the ring with calmness and understanding.

Remember, it’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. The first show may be full of new sights and sounds, but with the right training, our or your young horse can shine in their own time. Stay patient, stay positive, and trust the process. Excited for the next chapter in their journey!🎉

Johan Cruyff, one of football’s greatest minds, revolutionized the game not just as a player but as a coach. Known for his philosophy of total football, Cruyff emphasized a style of play where versatility, creativity, and intelligence were key. His coaching techniques have had a profound influence on modern football, and interestingly, some of these principles can be compared to those in equestrian sport, where the relationship between rider and horse mirrors the synergy between player, team and coach.

Though Johan Cruyff’s methods were rooted in football, there are notable parallels between his techniques and coaching strategies in equestrian sports. In equestrian disciplines, the relationship between horse and rider is central, much like the relationship between coach and player and the team in football. Here’s how in my opinion one of Cruyff’s principles compare:

Emphasis on Fluidity and Adaptability:

Cruyff’s tactical approach was rooted in fluidity. He believed that players should be capable of playing in any position on the field, adapting to changing circumstances. This philosophy encouraged a free-flowing game where the ball was constantly in motion and players maintained high levels of intelligence and awareness. For Cruyff, football wasn’t just about rigid positions but rather about understanding the game’s rhythm and making decisions based on the evolving situation.

Just as Cruyff encouraged his football players to adapt to various positions and situations on the field, riders in equestrian sport must exhibit adaptability with their horses. Every horse has a unique temperament, strengths, and weaknesses, and a skilled rider must adjust their approach to meet the horse’s needs. The ability to seamlessly transition between different types of movement or ideas while riding—whether it’s in dressage, show jumping, eventing or groundwork—parallels the adaptability of Cruyff’s players.

Why not have an open mind and get your game up by making a plan and adjust it into the situation.

Does having a coach help or hinder at the competition grounds?

I’ve had the privileges of having both. In my years of competing. I truly believe a coach in the warm up can often be essential, especially at the lower levels.

Your training is achieved at home, and not in the 30 or so minutes before you compete. I’ve often seen riders at the lower levels (which I’m currently competing at, before anyone gets offended!) have intense training sessions in the warm up arena, and then go in. Hopefully then it helps or falls apart. Other than offering some positive “good”s.

I believe riders are far better off concentrating on how they feel their horse is going, rather than being shouted at by a trainer or so.

Your horse has feelings too, and in there you want your horse to feel confident and comfortable with you and the surroundings. Not be supported with ‘more’ ideas. Let alone deal with that chaos and energy from fellow horses and riders. Or parents going with the flow.

In my coaching I often get the goal to (very..) soon achieve “that great grated test, flawless course or double clear rounds”as the main objective of training. If all stars are aligned, the price is the icing on the cake. Yes that’s true. But why not take the time it takes? Be proud of yourself, what you are doing and the level you are at?

Obviously in any competition you need a helping hand. In a jumping warm up, you need someone gradually building the obstacles, and ideally someone that knows your routine. Same for dressage with changing boots, having an extra set of eyes,..

Where is the coach then helpful?

Mentally right before the show, when you have enough time to go over your routine, to talk about how you and your horse feels. To go over what you have been training on beforehand in your training sessions. To be with you when you wak the course. Or go over your test. And make a plan for it or the course. I’m not talking about eyes on the ground before a rider goes into a GP test, as certainly from a dressage point of view, someone just to comment that the horse needs to be a little more up/loose/forward, can be helpful.

Maybe it helps with a rider’s nerves? As I said,i’ve had coaching experience. For me at a competition, it works and I love it. But I prefer to feel how my horse is going that day, and make my own adjustments. Knowing that someone is by my side to stick to the plan. Especially going around an xc course. There, for me the coach gives me wings. Maybe it’s also because I don’t really train with anyone very often (through lack of time and finances). Fortunately, my parents aren’t horsey, so I’ve never had to put up with them shouting instructions at me in the warm up, like I see many poor kids go through!

If it works for you, then carry on having help or a coach in the warm up, but if things often fall apart in the ring, then it may be worth having some quiet time with your horse in the warm up, so you can feel what may or may not happen when you get in the ring. Just some food for thought, and an insight into your competition prep. Maybe ask your coach beforehand to go over the show schedule. So it’s easy the day itself.
