Yesterday’s event on Vaccination as a Preventive Tool for Transboundary Animal Diseases was a fantastic opportunity to spotlight the veterinary perspective on vaccination! FVE President Siegfried Moder shared invaluable insights.

Key takeaways:

Vaccines are essential in the veterinary toolbox for both livestock and companion animals.
We must re-evaluate eradication strategies to limit mass culling of animals.
Vaccines should always be prescribed by veterinarians and tailored to the animal/disease/situation
Boosting research is critical—especially for vaccines against emerging diseases and new serotypes, like vector-borne diseases.
Ensuring fair and widespread vaccine distribution across EU countries is a priority.

And the much-hoped for vaccine against ASF—intensive research is ongoing, but it remains a challenging goal.
