Baryancistrus xanthellus (ou acari-amarelinho ou cascudo-pepita-de-ouro) é um dos cascudos amazônicos mais populares e um dos mais difíceis de se reproduzir em aquário. Estamos com um grupo de adultos bom agora e iniciando uns projetos bem legais (postaremos aqui em breve).
O dimorfismo sexual de Baryancistrus xanthellus é semelhante ao de outras espécies de cascudos, mas é bem mais difícil de visualizar na prática. Existem muitas fêmeas com odontódeos bem desenvolvidos e muitos machos com odontódeos pouco desenvolvidos, bagunçando um pouco o meio de campo (para usar um jargão digno de copa).
Aqui trazemos os exemplares mais dimórficos que temos agora no laboratório (e são macho e fêmea com certeza absoluta, pois conseguimos extrair os gametas).
Como sempre, os machos possuem odontódeos mais desenvolvidos na região do opérculo e do acúleo (espinho) da nadadeira peitoral.
