What a challenging yet rewarding experience yesterday was.
For those of you that don't know, I moved to Bahrain last month and I am simply gob smacked at how bad the stray situation is at present. I had the opportunity to rescue 7 puppies yesterday and experience for the first time in person the sad reality of how some dogs are treated. We initially arrived to meet the mother of the puppies who was severely underweight and malnourished. I had the responsibility of taking her to the vets in addition to 3 of the puppies. They were vomiting and coughing in the car whilst I was transporting them to the vets and they were quite clearly very poorly. I just wanted to write this post to express how deeply upset I am by how people can treat pets, these were 7 puppies that deserved a good and healthy life, not to be treated like outcasts by their own owner. I am simply lost for words after the experience yesterday and I would love to help where I can to rescue animals on the street that are in urgent need of care. We have received an update from the vets and 4 of the puppies are under IV and vigorous treatment and 3 puppies are under antibiotic support and medication. But how did it get to this? Is it too much to ask to treat animals with love and respect, what have they done to deserve this?
I am aware that ill treatment of animals happens all over the world but I can honestly say that in Bahrain it is a massive problem that needs to be addressed. I will leave it at that but I felt the need to speak up about yesterday and share my experience with you all.
