The hatch is complete! I'm sure you all are excited to hear just how many babies hatched out.
There were a lot of very ambitious guesses, which we were hoping would be correct. Unfortunately, hatch rates for quail eggs vary tremendously from 50%-80%. Sadly this was one of the hatches that was toward the lower end of the hatch expectations. This is why we like to incubate so many eggs at once.

However....... We have a grand total of 115 adorable baby quails!!! This is still a very good amount of babies to add to our flock.

We had 2 people who guessed extremely close. Congratulations to Andrew Lake and Laura Trott for being the winners of our fun little adventure.
Andrew wins 3 dozen quail eggs, a pair of quail egg scissors, and a dozen chicken eggs.
Laura wins a dozen quail eggs and a dozen chicken eggs.

We will be messaging you both soon to arrange pickup of your prizes!

We have just moved some of the early hatchers into the brooder. There are still a few eggs that are pipped and we are will give them 24 more hours to finish hatching before doing the final tally.

Look at the picture of them in the coop to see the size comparison of them next to some marbles. These guys are so very tiny!! But also so cute and fluffy.

The hatch is in full swing! So far more than 50 chicks have hatched with plenty more on the way.
We will have better pictures by tomorrow morning after we move the babies into the brooder.
By Monday evening we should be able to announce the winners of the competition!!

Exciting news! First egg has pipped. This means that within the next 24 hours, these chicks will start popping out of the eggs!!

One of the most exciting parts of incubating eggs is being able to follow the development of the embryo's.
It is amazing to be able to watch them move.
This video was taken on day 4. Stay tuned for more pictures and videos to follow the development leading up to hatching.

Great news to everyone who entered the competition so far!!! We have candled eggs this week and are very happy with the development of the embryo's.
Every time we incubate eggs on the farm, we are always amazed at mother nature's ability to create life.
If you haven't yet guessed how many will hatch, check our previous post and comment on it. The cut off date is November 18th

Don't count your chicks before they hatch!! We are having a fun contest for all our followers.

Our newest batch of quail eggs just went in the incubator. In 14-18 days we will have a whole lot of tiny fluffy baby quail.

The contest is..... Can you guess how many of these eggs will hatch? There are 192 eggs in the incubator right now.

Contest rules are very simple:
Guess how many eggs will hatch without going over.
One guess per person.
If multiple people have the same correct number the first person to guess will be the winner.
Deadline is November 18th.
Post your guess in the comment section.

Prizes are:
1st closest wins 3 dozen fresh quail eggs, a pair of quail egg scissors, and a dozen fresh chicken eggs!!
2nd closest wins a dozen quail eggs and a dozen chicken eggs!
