Gus belongs to one of our vets Rachel. He is a big boy but a lovable character. We think he looks smashing in Ettrick colours and makes a wonderful mascot! 😍

Happy "Howl"oween - The Ettrick team had a wonderful time at the Beyond Inclusion's Trunk & Treat event on Sunday. They give the chance for individuals with support needs to experience and participate in a Trick and Treat style event. The participants all had a wonderful time, and so did we... we even introduced a little bit of snow to Bermuda in our Winter Wonderland themed trunk!
Shout out to Noah's Ark & Aberfeldy Nursery for the props supplied to create the scenery! πŸ₯°

Save the date!! We are very excited to be hosting this event...

There is no cost involved for joining the database for pets that are already microchipped. We encourage Pet Parents to take advantage of this great opportunity to join as this is the best way to ensure that any missing pets are reunited with their owners as quickly as possible in the event they get out and about!!

We will also offer to microchip any pets that are not currently done at a reduced rate of $60 during the event. Please call the practice on 236-0007, if you are interested in bringing your pet in for microchipping & you can then immediately register on the PadsPass Database.

Hope to see you there!!

Update from Ettrick:
We are still closed whilst we weather the hurricane however a small team of volunteers from our nurses and vets have come in to let the dogs and cats with us have a little exercise, and have been fed and watered. All pets are doing well and coping amazingly in their airconned kennels πŸ₯°πŸ˜

Please remember to phone our on call vet on 505 4348 if you have an emergency. We may not be able to get out but we can offer advice.

Our generator is powering through but in case that goes out, our emergency phone is the best contact number.

We hope our normal boarding staff are in tomorrow and will update you accordingly on other services.

Ettrick Hurricane Update:
We are closing the hospital imminently and will be available for emergencies only. Please make sure your fur-babies are safe and indoors and please stay safe during the storm. If you have any concerns or questions, please call our emergency mobile on 505-4348. Even if we are unable to meet you at the hospital, due to dangerous conditions, the vet will at least be able to provide advice on how to keep your pet stable until we can see you.

Please ensure all animals are indoors over the next 24-36 hours as the hurricane passes. Please ensure your cat/pet carriers are available and handy in case of an emergency.

We will endeavor to keep you all updated - we are expecting to be closed for tomorrow with little access to the hospital. Should you lose power and need to contact us, please makes sure you call the mobile emergency number on 505-4348 and not the normal hospital number as the voicemail will not work.

We anticipate being on site Sunday morning as soon as it is safe to access roads etc.

Be safe guys!

14/08/2024

We are watching the approach of storm Ernesto carefully & will make plans accordingly. We will remain open as long as it is safe, and if closing is necessary, we will be back open as soon as possible.

We have back up power with a generator and any animals with us in the hospital or kennels are comfortable. Our teams will prioritize care for the pets already with us to make sure they remain safe.

We will keep you updated on any changes to our opening hours and please call 236-0007 as usual. In the event of an emergency, our mobile phone will be manned by a Vet and they will be available at all times on 505-4348 outside normal operating hours. Please be aware that if it is unsafe to travel by road, we won't be accessible but will endeavor to be available as soon as possible. In the event of a communication failure, please reach out on here or via email and again we will keep these channels monitored as closely as we can.

Please keep your animals safe and sheltered indoors and check your medication supply. When venturing out, watch for any hazards for your pets like broken glass, down lines and debris etc. Please do not hesitate to call should you need anything and we hope you and your pets stay safe and well.

Storm prep! - We are trying our best to expedite med renewals over the next few days before the storm hits. Please check your fur-babies meds and try and submit any requests for medications that may run out over the next week ASAP. Please call Front Desk on 236-0007 or email/website submit and let us know if you are likely to run out.

We apologize for the issue we've had with the phones today. ONE customers currently cannot access us via phone. Our emergency number is accessible at 505 4348 overnight. We are hoping that the issue will be resolved tomorrow morning.

Dear Clients,
You may have read recently about changes affecting travelling to the US with your dog (currently no changes for cats). Whilst we understand this may cause concern, we are reaching out to reassure you that we have been working with the Government Veterinary Officer to minimize the impact this will have on you travelling with your furry friends.

The new regulations come into effect on August 1st, 2024. In essence, the following must be true for all dogs entering the US from Bermuda:
- All must be at least 6 months of age
- Appear healthy on arrival
- Have an ISO-compatible microchip (don't worry our scanners are equipped to identify this type)
- Owners must have completed an online CDC Dog Import Form prior to travelling (https://cdc-786687.workflowcloud.com/forms/090dc543-7b2f-4538-b2c7-2919d12ecc73)

We advise clients to still seek an Ettrick Animal Hospital US Health Certificate within 10 days of travel to ensure you pet is fit and healthy. Although not a US requirement, many airlines will ask for this certificate.

If you have resided in or travelled to a high-risk country prior to to entry into the US from Bermuda, there are some extra rules to follow. See here for a full list of the countries in question: (https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/high-risk-countries.html?CDC_AAref_Val=https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/high-risk.html). We highly recommend you contact us well in advance of any proposed travel for us to assess any additional steps required.

All information for all travel situations into the US is available on the CDC website (https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/index.html). Please be assured we are here to help with any travel queries regardless of the destination and if you are concerned by any of the US changes, please reach out and we can assist you.

We hope you have a lovely Summer and Cup Match and wish you safe travels.

We have a new Vet - introducing Rachel ❀️

Rachel grew up in Bermuda and has returned home. She joined us back at Ettrick in April of this year and we absolutely love having her back.

Some of you may remember Rachel as she previously worked at Ettrick Animal Hospital as a vet nurse but has since been in the UK studying to be a veterinarian. She graduated from Edinburgh University in 2018 with a Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. She then worked as a GP vet in the UK for five years and her role involved mentoring new younger vets and undertaking a managerial role.

Rachel has a keen interest in internal medicine & we look forward to supporting her to expand her knowledge in this area.

She returns home with her super cutie dog Gus (you may bump into them on the trail or at the beach) - check out his instagram .islanddog. She enjoys weight training and the gym and is super excited to be back in Bermuda!

For anyone wishing to see a female vet, please request Rachel when talking to our colleagues on Front Desk. Sadly Monica has left us to go travelling and back to the UK, but we wish her well and know she will be missed by all.

Team kite building with 3 kites made from scratch. We'll done Emma, Kamille and Ben. All 3 flew first time with only one needing ICU! Love keeping great Bermuda traditions alive.
