Orthopedic surgeries outcome depends upon many factors like procedure done by specialist or not , post operative care by professional vet assistants , hygiene in post op care but most important is cats own temperament. If cat is jumper or ferocious outcome to achieve like in this case is difficult.
Diet also very important as whole duration mamma gray is on special diet for fracture patients prescribed by @hillspet.

“Successful treatment of long time intestinal blockade (Intussuception) in Ginger” cat
Ginger was presented on 16 Oct with the problem of chronic constipation and unable to poop from many days. Dr. Rohin Sharma Immediately conducted the X-ray examination. Ginger had a history of intestinal blockage and a surgery was conducted in some other clinic. X-Ray examination revealed that the previous surgery had constricted the lumen and reduced the diameter of intestine thereby blocking the passage of faeces.
There was telescoping of one part of intestine into another. Ginger was admitted and the surgery was done to remove the solidified hardened faces as well as the narrowed part (telescoped part) of the intestine causing the blockade. Proper monitoring was done after the surgery and ginger underwent weekly ultrasound examinations to check whether the healing is proper or not. She was also given the special medical grade restorative diet to put less pressure on the intestine and thereby allow healing.
In the last visit of Ginger, she had completely healed and is now having a great time with the pet parents.
We would like to educate our pet parents that if you notice any unusual behavior in pee and poop (urinating and passing faeces) consider it as a warning sign and immediately proceed for checkup. Also make sure your pet is in good hands because a surgery gone wrong especially for the delicate parts like intestine may give birth to bigger future problems. Proper diagnostic and monitoring facilities are a must.

Tammy was presented to @pawsnclaws.bn on 21st Nov 2021 in the evening as a hit and run emergency case.
His condition was pitiful. He had a severely fractured and bleeding jaw. Even the tongue was bifurcated into two and the eye had popped out, bleeding and was completely damaged.
Immediately Dr. Rohin did the complete physical examination, checked the vitals and tammy was immediately prepared for surgery. The surgery was done on inhalant anesthesia which is quite safe in such emergency conditions. Tongue was sutured with soft palate reconstructive surgery and emergency critical injections were given to stop bleeding. Then the jaw reconstructive surgery was done to fix the broken jaw. After that the completed extruded eye ball was removed safely (enucleation) and the eye sutured to allow healing.
Regular medication and follow ups were done to keep a check on the healing and prevent infection. On 7 Dec Tammy came for checkup and 90% healing was noticed. On her latest visit on 30th Dec Tammy had completely healed was having a good time with her pet parents @catnamedbro

On 17 Sept 2021 “Grey” the cat was presented with the problem of eyelids drooping. “Grey” had already been treated for conjunctivitis two weeks before. Our Senior Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Rohin Sharma analyzed the situation and after the physical examination concluded that he shall test the blood pressure. Grey was found to be suffering from severe hypertension as the blood pressure (BP) recorded was 173/119 which fall under the severe range. In general, normal BP in cats ranges from 120 to 140 mm Hg systolic and 70 to 90 mm Hg diastolic, with a mean of about 110 mm Hg. An exploratory X-Ray examination was done to analyze the status of heart and lungs and other organs which might be affected due to hypertension. Luckily, it was an early stage and the organs did not show noticeable change. So, Grey was put on specific medication for 2 months and monitored. After one month the blood pressure was reduced and measured to be 134/115. After 2 months, finally Grey’s Blood pressure had come to the normal range and the problem of regular drooping of eyelids was resolved.
Sometimes, bigger problems may present with symptoms so small and insignificant as this. But never ignore them because they may be the only outer expressions of bigger hidden problems and if untreated may lead to serious consequences. Thankfully for Dr. Rohin’s experience and expertise which has always come handy and Grey’s Vigilant and aware pet parents that Grey is healthy and cheerful again.

First time Successful Surgical removal of bladder stone in pet Tortoise (REPTILE) “Chibak”
A pet tortoise named chibak was presented to Paws & Claws Veterinary care Sdn. Bhd. on 8th Dec 2021 with the complaint of loss of appetite and inability to poop from a week. Chibak was getting weak day by day. After the basic physical examination and palpation, immediately decision was taken by Dr. Rohin to go for the X-Ray.
X- ray depicted that there was a huge stone / urolith in the urinary bladder which was causing the trouble. After discussing with the pet parents the decision was taken to proceed for the surgery.
This is the first time in Brunei that surgery was successfully performed on the reptiles. The tortoise "Chibak" was given an initial specific tranquillizer and then maintained on inhalant anesthesia throughout the surgery using a face mask. It is the safest in reptiles. The shell was surgically opened from the underside to reach to the bladder and then aseptically the bladder was opened to release the huge stone which was causing the blockade. The bladder was sutured and the shell was replaced back and sealed. The stone was a urate stone. Recovery was fast on 100% oxygen. Owing to the surgical expertise of our senior Vet Dr. Rohin Sharma and availabilities of facilities like X-ray which helped in diagnosing the problem by helping in visualizing the stone as well as the availability of inhalant anesthesia, this surgery became possible.
Finally, Chibak was relieved from the suffering and went home happily with his pet parents. Thanks to all who is showing more care and concern towards their pets and consider them a part of family.
Awareness message to the pet parents: Tortoise bladder stone or uroliths are generally a problem in pet tortoises. Tortoises are a desert species, so they conserve water to adapt to their arid environment. They can recycle water from their bladder into their system when they do not have access to drinking water. So, keep your
PNC/5211- DIAGNOSIS AND COMPLETE RECOVERY OF JESTER SUFFERING FROM RARE FORM OF FUNGAL SKIN ISSUE.
COMPLETE RECOVERY OF DERMATOLOGICAL CONDITION (SKIN PROBLEM) OVER THE FACE AREA IN A SENIOR CAT NAMED JESTER (FELINE) MALE WHO WAS SUFFERING FROM LONG TERM SKIN ISSUE. TREATMENTS HAD BEEN DONE BEFORE SEVERAL TIMES BUT ALL WITHOUT ANY CONFIRMATORY DIAGNOSIS DUE TO WHICH JESTER’S SKIN ISSUE CAME BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN EVEN AFTER SEVERAL VISITS TO DIFFERENT CLINICS.
ON 9TH OCTOBER JESTER WITH HIS FAMILY FINALLY VISITED PAWS N CLAWS VETERINARY CARE TO FIND THE REAL CAUSE BEHIND IT. DR. ROHIN SHARMA DID A SKIN SCRAPPING EXAMINATION AND AFTER THE SKIN TESTING, HE FOUND A VERY RARE FORM OF FUNGAL GROWTH NAMED MICROSCPORUM GYPSEUM WITHIN. THERE WERE FUNGAL HYPHAE AND ARTHROSPORES SURROUNDING JESTER’S HAIR AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE VIDEO. IN CATS MOST OF THE TIME ITS MICROSPORUM CANIS WHICH IS WIDELY SPREAD AND 75% PRESENT IN FUNGAL CONDITIONS BUT MICROSPORUM GYPSEUM IS RARE TO FIND HERE IN BRUNEI IN CATS. THIS IS THE REASON HE IS WAS NOT ABLE TO GET THE RIGHT CURE TILL NOW.
AFTER ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS, DR. ROHIN STARTED SPECIFIC TREATMENT FOR THE CAUSE AND GRADUALLY PROMISING RESULTS SHOWED IN 2 WEEKS. AFTER TAPERING THE DOSE OF SPECIFIC MEDICINES GIVEN IN ONE MONTH JESTER WAS COMPLETELY BACK TO NORMAL AS PICTURES DEPICT WITH NEGATIVE SKIN SCRAPING TEST.
CRITICAL COMPONENTS OF TREATMENT INCLUDES NOT JUST TREATMENT ASPECT BUT ALSO PROPER MANAGEMENT WHICH INCLUDES DIETARY MANAGEMENT ALONG WITH ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT TO PREVENT REINFECTION. WE HERE AT PAWS & CLAWS WOULD LIKE TO EDUCATE OUR CLIENTS TO ALWAYS VOUCH FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS AS WELL AS FOR THE MANAGEMENT ASPECT. AIM IS NOT JUST TO TREAT BUT ALSO TO PREVENT REOCCURRENCE.
