Scooby-Doo's full name is Scoobert Doo but he clearly prefers to be called Scooby as evidenced by his signature catchphrase: “Scooby-Dooby-Doo!”

The character dynamics of Scooby-Doo have been incredibly influential for future cartoons and even children's television; the interactions between the five extremely distinct and yet archetypal characters doesn't just make it easier to relate to at least one character but also allows for nearly endless possibilities.

Creator Iwao Takamoto later explained that before he designed the character, he first spoke to a Great Dane breeder, who described to him the desirable characteristics of a pedigree dog. Takamoto then drew Scooby as the opposite of this.

Scooby-Doo is a Great Dane. The character was designed by Iwao Takamoto, an animator at Hanna-Barbera. According to the American Kennel Club, Great Danes are "the mighty 'Apollo of Dogs,'" which is very unlike the silly and cowardly Scooby-Doo.

Scooby was born as a puppy. One day, he was adopted by a young boy named Shaggy Rogers. The two of them became best friends. Scooby and Shaggy eventually met Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, and Velma Dinkley and grew close with them by solving mysteries with them. 🐾

A Halloween practice in which children wearing costumes go from door to door in a neighborhood saying "trick or treat" when a door is opened to ask for treats with the implied threat of playing tricks on those who refuse.

The phrase is a subtle suggestion that if a treat (like candy) is given, then the child will not perform a “trick" (mischief) on the owner of the house. This popular Halloween custom has its origins in the ancient practices of “souling" and “guising." 🐾

In the 19th century, when a lot of Irish immigrated to the United States, they brought the Halloween tradition of using vegetables to scare the spirits away. In America, the Irish discovered a new vegetable, the pumpkin, which is harvested in the fall, and began using it to scare the evil spirits.

The winter squash variety Jack O'Lantern is a well-known race of ornamental pumpkins, often used for Halloween. The plants have short vines. Not until late in the season, during ripening, the fruits start to colour from green to orange.

Pumpkins mean new life within us, within our family and friends. Basically to me that means just a new beginning and starting over fresh. Did you know that pumpkins also represent strength? Well they do and all because of the farmers who worked on the field back in the days and still do to grow pumpkins. 🐾

Legends of vampires go back centuries, but few names have cast more terror into the human heart than Dracula. However the fictional character, created by author Bram Stoker, was in fact based on a real historical figure called Vlad the Impaler.

Bram Stoker's Dracula, the iconic 1897 tale of a vampire from Transylvania, is often thought to be inspired by a formidable 15th-century governor from present-day Romania named Vlad the Impaler.

Also known as Vlad III, Vlad Dracula (son of the Dragon), and—most famously—Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes in Romanian), he was a brutal, sadistic leader famous for torturing his foes. By some estimates he is responsible for the deaths of more than 80,000 people in his lifetime—a large percentage of them by impalement.

Vlad the Impaler, in full Vlad III Dracula or Romanian Vlad III Drăculea, also called Vlad III or Romanian Vlad Țepeș, (born 1431, Sighișoara, Transylvania [now in Romania]—died 1476, north of present-day Bucharest, Romania), voivode (military governor, or prince) of Walachia (1448; 1456–1462; 1476) whose cruel methods.

Romanian prince Vlad III of Wallachia, popularly known as Vlad Dracula, is famous for his aversion to sunlight – a trait that gave rise to vampire legends. Like many myths, vampirism is partly based on fact; specifically, a rare blood disorder called porphyria.

Sultan Mehmet II (Islam) invaded Wallachia and in 1476 his forces destroyed Dracula's forces in Bucharest, Romania. All were killed including Dracula. The vampire had been slain. His head was cut off and impaled on a stake in Istanbul. 🐾

Halloween's origins can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain, which was held on November 1 in contemporary calendars. It was believed that on that day, the souls of the dead returned to their homes, so people dressed in costumes and lit bonfires to ward off spirits.

Islamic scholars agreed that Halloween is prohibited “haram” in Islam. They ruled that Halloween is against the Islamic law “Shariah”, as it's based on pagan traditions and forbidden practices such as honoring the dead. It's noteworthy that Halloween originated from ancient Celtic and European pagan beliefs.

Since the Bible doesn't address Halloween, many Christians liken the celebration to other moments where the Bible discusses witchcraft, sacrifice, and worldly behaviors. The Bible contains various teachings on how to behave or interact with the world's troubling celebrations.

In Ireland, people started to carve demonic faces out of turnips to frighten away Jack's wandering soul. When Irish immigrants moved to the U.S., they began carving jack-o'-lanterns from pumpkins, as these were native to the region.

According to the Library of Congress, Halloween is celebrated (in part) because October 31 is the eve of All Saints Day, a day in which Christians remember and honor the dead. However, many people believe the holiday originates from an old Druid festival called “Samhain.

Pope Gregory III transferred the Feast of All Saints from May 13th to November 1st. Pope Gregory IV then extended this feast to the Universal Church. That is why Halloween is celebrated by Catholics all around the world, but in their own cultural ways. 🐾

Dog racing is a 20th-century outgrowth of the older sport of coursing, in which dogs hunted by sight rather than scent. 🐾

O.P. Smith demonstrated dog racing in 1919 at Emeryville, California, and the first track opened there that year.

Importing of greyhounds to the United States came in the late 1800's to control the jackrabbit population in the Midwest; coursing events soon followed. Greyhound track racing, as we know it today, began in 1919 in California with the invention of a mechanical lure.

In recent years the vast majority of greyhound tracks have closed due to declining betting revenue, encroachment by Native American gaming and commercial casino gambling into states with greyhound racing, the legalization of sports betting and concerns over the welfare of racing greyhounds.

BALLYREGAN BOB: the world champion notched up 42 wins from 48 outings and was undefeated as a stayer. The magnificent Ballyregan Bob, perceived by the purists as the greatest greyhound of all time, died from heart failure at owner Jessie Kevern's Henfield home in April, 1994.

A Dudley Lab is a Labrador retriever that lacks pigmentation on the eyes, eye rims, muzzle, and nose. Because some people believe that any Labradors with reduced nose pigmentation are also Dudley Labradors. There are three types of noses that a yellow Lab can have. Black, brown or pink.

Labrador retriever Pink nose can be caused by the liver gene, which dilutes black pigment to a red-brown color, lightens the eyes to amber, and turns the nose brownish or deep pink. They can also be caused by piebalding, vitiligo, and other white patterns, which are caused by pigment loss and produce a lighter pink nose. 🐾
