Great news. Pepper’s family can’t bear to give up on her! They’re going to keep her and strive to train her to find the right fit with their family.

Her adoptive family will keep us posted on her progress. Thank you, Potcake people for stepping up and encouraging them to keep the faith that they can turn this around!

Good morning! We have a sad situation regarding one of our Potcake gals who was flown to her new family in March. The adoption is not working out for the family. We thought Pepper had settled in beautifully, but apparently the “honeymoon period” has worn off and she’s not “playing well with others”, so to speak. Why? We don’t know. She’s located on the West Coast of Florida and is in need of a new family or foster. Please open your hearts to this young lady. Help us secure her future!

Morning, PC lovers! Our backs are up against the wall over here. We’re trying to secure transport, shelter/rescue/adoption for our puppies that are just about 4 months old. At four months we can transport puppies with the proper paperwork. That ends on August 1st, per the CDC. After Aug 1, we can’t transport pups under six months. This is going to seriously impact our mission to save pups and find loving homes here and abroad. Even now, transporting puppies with all the health certificates, etc., US Customs is scrutinizing everything. That’s something that rarely happened in the past.

Puppies aren’t the only thing on our plate. This poor baby was dropped near the shelter this morning. She (I think) will be treated and hopefully make a grand recovery. We’ve dealt with dogs almost eaten away with mange and are confident we can help this baby pull through.

We appreciate your support more than you know! Now, is the time to step up!

Good morning, Potcake people! We’re sending out an SOS for foster families in the Abaco’s! We’re endeavoring to get these kiddos sent to rescuers/fosters/shelters/adopters in the US when they reach 4 months old. Under the new CDC regs starting August 1st, all puppies entering the US must be over 6 months old. Until then, puppies 4 months plus may enter if accompanied by clear health records.

We’re begging for fosters for these guys until we can arrange transport. Won’t you be a participant in this effort!? You’ll never regret it and you’ll be helping to support our community!

Another fly out! Two of our beauties, Mary and Collins, flew out yesterday, courtesy of Andrew Kelly, pilot! Collins went directly to his new family, and Mary, his sibling, is in foster. Collin’s new family is over the Moon in love! And, Mary is being a good girl at her foster’s house, which is also home to 7 dogs of various shapes and sizes. Mary is winning hearts all over the place.

Hello, Potcake lovers! We have a crisis. Due to the forest fires approaching several neighborhoods in the past several days, we have taken in quite a few refugee puppies!

We were alerted to a litter of 8 pups, barely 3 weeks old, whose mama had died. When we went to collect them the occupants of the home were hosing down the bush near the home to keep the flames at bay. The pups are just starting to lap. We desperately need fosters because they need to be bottle fed at least 3 times a day. We also have ten 10-week old pups that were rescued by the firemen in Central Pines.

We know we have local supporters! Could we ask for some help in fostering? Please!

Abaco today. It’s hot, hot, hot and dry as kindling. We have forest fires all over Abaco. This litter of 3 week old pups was just rescued from the path of one blaze. Sadly, the mama is dead. Another just rescued from the fire is coming in soon. We haven’t had rain for 42 days.

Good news, we sent out two more of our darling yesterday, thanks to Frank Polanco and Maria Gaspari, long time supporters. We are so grateful for their support. The two pups that flew out on Thursday are on the way to NJ! Thank you, Darbster Foundation and so many others!

So…

Starting on August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States must meet new, specific requirements depending on where they have been in the 6 months before entering the U.S. and where they received their rabies vaccines (if required).

Good morning, Potcake Peeps! We’re sad today. The new requirements dictated by the CDC (see link below) are going to make it virtually impossible to send our pups to adopters and supporting rescues in the US. What will we do, what can we do? We will soldier on!

Two of our darling youngsters went out today to their foster home and one lovely young gentleman named Archie went straight to his new home. And, two more lovelies are flying out today! At least there’s that. A small consolation on a sad day. Thank you, Dana, Amanda, Frank, Maria, Cooper, Roy and many others that made these fly outs possible.

Good morning! It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. We’re still working on getting four 4-month old pups out. Two, Mai Tai and Daiquiri, are flying to Ft Pierce where the plane check in with Customs. A longtime supporter is picking them up and will foster. Our next step for these two is transporting them up to NJ. That’s presenting a challenge.

The other two darlings, Ginny and Tom, are being picked up on May 10th by Frank Polanco and Maria Gaspari, also long time supporters. They have been accepted by a shelter in FL.

Good morning, Potcake peeps! We’ve made a new connection to rescuers in NJ! If we can get our pups to FL and on to NJ they will foster and find loving homes. When and if we get pups to FL we’ll need transport up the Coast. We may have a Pilots N Paws pilot on the line. A driving chain may be needed, too. So many of our usual rescue and humane societies are overloaded and can’t take our pups right now. Let’s get this done.

Good morning, Marsh Harbour! Of the many things Abaco Shelter does, one is helping folks find their lost pets. Does anyone recognize these two beauties! They’re roaming, but where hasn’t been determined.

A job well done! Our volunteers from Abaco and abroad, did a spectacular three-day S/N clinic. A total of 51 cats and dogs were processed with loving care by our heroes, Dr D and Dr Joey. We hope to continue with regular clinics throughout the year. Your donations and support make it happen! Thank you!

Busy, busy week!

Transporting two of young juvenile residents, Spectra and Gracie, to their new home! Thank you, Victoria Albury!

Oh, boy…we have puppies, lots of puppies! Currently in foster care, these little ones are fully vetted and ready to go. We’ll be reaching out to our supporters and humane societies to help us transport and find loving homes for each and everyone. We’re well aware that shelters are bursting at the seams, so placing these loves will be a challenge. We’ll tap every resource we can to accomplish their transport. Could you lend a hand?

Bindi was adopted from Abaco Shelter in 2021 and her mama is heartbroken that she cannot keep her. She’s located in Sebastian. Let’s give her a helping hand! Spread the word, please!

Bringing our beloved Potcakes into their future lives is so satisfying! Thanks to our supporters, John and Leticia, we flew two pups and one lovely “teenager” to Tampa on Friday. Pepper, the teenage beauty, was a shelter resident for over a year, now she’s a Florida resident with her new family! And, the pups, Darby and Harper, are safe with one of our long-time supporters, Judy. She will see that they are settled in at Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Thank you, Danyella and Ornella, at THS for offering our lovelies a road to la pura vida!

These two beautiful nuggets need to get to FL real soon! Three plus month old Darby and Harper are in foster care now, well trained and have had all meds. We have pilots who will fly our pups from Marsh Harbour, Abaco, but need a destination shelter/rescue to take them in, preferably on the East Coast of Florida. The humane societies we normally deal with are full to overflowing and can’t take them. These are just two that need to fly out, there are several younger ones that need to go soon, too.
