Your pets’ (Dogs and Cats) senior years start at about 7 years of age, which means that on average, they spend half their lives as seniors.

The diagnostic senior screenings are vital for preventative healthcare in senior pets. These are tracked and scheduled in the following way; pre-treatment screenings such as history and physical examination, blood tests (CBC, biochemical profile), urinalysis with the focus being your pets’ health.

Dr Ignatius Tothodzani Ndzinge and his veterinary team would like to take this opportunity to congratulate those clients who have been tackling pet overpopulation in our community this February. By spaying or neutering your pet, you help to keep the BSPCA Gaborone shelter from being overcrowded and dogs and cats from being euthanized due to lack of space.

Do you know that your neutered male dog is likely to live 18% longer and your spayed female dog 23% longer, while a spayed cat will live 39% longer and neutered tom cat will live 62% longer? You have actually increased the lifespan of your bond and companionship with your pet. You have reduced the urge to roam. Such roaming can expose your dogs and cats to fights with other animals resulting in injuries and infections, trauma from vehicle strikes and other accidental mishaps.

There is no better way to celebrate Spay/Neuter Awareness Month than to have your pet fixed. If you haven’t already done so, please do and also encourage your friends and family to do the same.

In conclusion, you should remember that having your pets spayed/neutered is an important responsibility that you should not take lightly. The Spay and Neuter Awareness Month offers an excellent opportunity to get the word out there and helps to create conversations about the topic.

Call us on 3914121 to make an appointment or to get more information!

In case you are wondering about the right age for a "snip and clip" for your pet, below are some guidelines you can follow.

•In general for CATS, spaying and neutering is recommended from 5/6months of age.

•For DOGS, multiple factors including breed, age, temperament of the dog as well as the needs of the owner should be considered.

But typically 📝
•For small and medium breed dogs, spaying and neutering is generally recommended from 6 months of age.
•However, for large and giant breed dogs it is recommended to only spay and neuter from 12-18months of age.

As there are some considerations to make for varying age ranges for different breeds, it is therefore very important to speak to your vet before making the decision to have your pet spayed or neutered.

Our Vets look forward to helping you make a well informed decision! Call us now on 3914121 ☎️

Let's give your pet the gift of "getting fixed" this month of love! ❤️🙈
