This came up as a memory on my feed from 1 year ago so thought I'd share the story of "Cresta horse".
We heard about this horse collapsed by the river, story was he was hit by a car and then managed to get down to the river where we found him. A group of us worked tirelessly trying to get him up and give him a second chance. If he made it through he had a lovely home secured! We managed to get him up on his feet and had guys watching him 24 hours day incase he fell again - or got eaten by a crocodile. We nursed him for a little over 2 weeks, He was too weak to move with a trailer so treated him where he was.
He got stronger every day and eventually started grazing and walking again. Sadly when we thought things were looking up , he lost sight in both eyes, possibly from head trauma from the accident.
The kindest thing to do was to end his suffering, hopefully he got to know kindness in his last days.
Out of the sadness of not being able to save him, another little soul came into my life who needed help too. And so Gizmo was saved that day too.
Happy 1 year of being with our family Gizzy cat.
I was told about this little foal lying on the side of the road in the middle of town.
He had severe infection and dehydration as he couldn't stand up to drink from his mom, I managed to track down his owner who understood he needed to be treated and assisted us as we loaded him (and mom) into a trailer and took him to get some help.
It was a long haul for this little guy, he was with me for 2 months and together with the assistance and guidance from our vet he made a great recovery.
I now pass "Lucky" the little red pony most days on my way into town and smile knowing he lives to fight another day.
And we all know to survive in this town you need to be a fighter!
Thank you to those who donated grass and assisted with this rescue.
