It is with mixed feelings that we bid adieu to Dr. Philip De Shield.
Quiet, composed and caring, Dr. De Shield easily gains the confidence of his patients and clients. He will be a tremendous asset to any practice that hires him as he leaves for the cold north in Toronto, Canada.
We will miss his perseverance in finding the best solutions to so many complex problems. His cases were carefully considered and his treatments well-executed. His constant study and hard work grew our wildlife medicine practice which became a drawing card for our new hires.
Since Dr. Philip’s first day with us in June 2014, Animal Medical Centre has seen many improvements in our practice of veterinary medicine. His nine years brought new techniques in surgery, new ideas in delivery and a drive to build the capacity of our hospital. He took a year away to work in New Zealand back in 2017 and came back with much to offer Animal Medical Centre. We are wishing him a fond farewell with the belief that his return again to us will bring even greater improvements in Animal Medical Centre care.
Au revoir Dr. Philip!
Yuh haffi cohn bak, yuh heah!

The HEAT is on!
Provide water and ample shade and be careful not to over exercise your pets in hot weather.
Heat stress can severely damage an animal's muscles and internal organs. Care and treatment of a heat-stressed animal includes getting the animal away from the sun into a cool environment and providing continuous cool water therapy until you can transport your pet to the vet.

Part II: Symptoms & Diagnosis of Canine Distemper Infected dogs develop watery to pus/like discharge from eyes and nostrils, fever, coughing, listlessness, reduced appetite and vomiting. As the virus attacks the nervous system, infected dogs develop circling behavior, head tilt, muscle twitches, convulsiones, jaw chewing motions, salivation, seizures and partial or complete paralysis. Distemper is often fatal and dogs that survive usually have permanent, irreparable nervous system damage. The disease is diagnosed through clinical signs and laboratory testing. There is no known cure for Canine Distemper infection.
