It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Pets R Family Veterinary, effective December 7, 2024. This decision comes after much consideration, and we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to all of you who have been a part of our journey.
From the moment we opened our doors, our mission has always been to provide compassionate, high-quality care for your beloved pets. We have cherished every wagging tail, every purr, and every opportunity to help your furry family members live their healthiest and happiest lives. Your trust in us has meant the world, and we are so grateful for the relationships we've built over the years.
As we prepare to close, we want to ensure that you have the resources you need for your pets' ongoing care. We encourage you to seek alternative veterinary services in the community. There are many excellent practices nearby that will continue to provide the love and care your pets deserve.
In the coming weeks, we will be reaching out to our clients to assist with any necessary medical records or referrals. If you have any questions or need support during this transition, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are here to help in any way we can before our final day.
We will miss seeing all of your familiar faces and the joy your pets brought into our lives. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your family. We hope that the memories we've created together will last a lifetime.

🎄🐾 Important Reminder! Keep Your Furry Friends Safe This Christmas! 🐾🎄

With the Christmas season nearing, we want to remind pet owners of the effects that holiday celebrations, especially fireworks, can have on our cherished pets. While this is a time of joy and sharing, the loud noises from fireworks and bright lights can be frightening for animals, leading to anxiety and causing many to run away. Each year in Belize, numerous dogs go missing, and lost pet posts become common. Therefore, it's important to remind owners to take extra precautions to ensure their pets' safety and comfort during the holidays. Some tips to help protect your pets:
1. Assign a quiet, comfortable space in your home where your pet can retreat. Fill it with their favorite toys, blankets, and perhaps a personal item of your clothing to provide comfort.
2. Ensure your pets have ID tags with your phone number on their collars and that they are properly placed and not able to slip out easily.
3. Keep your pets indoors during fireworks displays. If they need to go outside, ensure they are supervised and on a leash.
4. The use of music aids by creating white noise or keeping the TV loud to help drown out the sound of fireworks. Close curtains or blinds to minimize the bright flashes.
5. Your presence is the best comfort for your pet and provides reassurance of safety. If you know fireworks are scheduled, try to stay home with them.
6. Check your fence and yard for any vulnerable areas where your dog could escape. Remember when they are afraid they will run and try to hide.
7. If your pet has severe anxiety, visit us as we may have to prescribe calming products or medications.
We want the holiday season to be as joyful and stress-free for your pets. Let's spread the word and make this Christmas a safe one for all our animal companions.

🐾🌧️ **Attention Pet Owners!** 🌧️🐾
As our country experiences more rain, we're seeing a significant increase in frog and cane toad activity. These toads can be extremely hazardous, especially for curious dogs who might be tempted to sniff, lick, or even play with them. Cane toads secrete a toxic substance that can cause serious health issues if ingested or even just contacted.
🚨 Here are some important tips to keep your pets safe from cane toads:
1. 🐶 Always supervise your pets when they're outside, especially during and after rainy weather.
2. 🚫 Keep your pets away from puddles and standing water where toads are often found.
3. ⚠️ If you see symptoms such as excessive drooling, pawing at the mouth, vomiting, and disorientation, suspect your pet has encounter a cane toad and seek veterinary attention immediately.
4. Always clean the bowl and provide new clean water daily.
🌀 In addition to the increased toad activity, we also need to prepare for the upcoming hurricane. Here are some essential steps to ensure your pets are safe:
1. 🆔 Make sure your pets are microchipped or are wearing collars with up-to-date ID tags in case they get lost.
2. 📦 Make an emergency kit and include enough food, water, medications, and any comfort items your pets may need for at least a week.
3. 🏠 Identify your nearest shelter in your area and have a plan for safe transport.
4. 🔒 Ensure your home is secure, and have a safe, comfortable space ready for your pets to stay in during the storm.
📢 Stay well-informed by keeping an eye on weather updates from NEMO and follow advisories. Your pets depend on you to keep them safe!

Hey everyone! ☀️🐶🐱 With the summer heat in full swing and Easter just around the corner, let's make sure to take extra care of our beloved pets during these hot days and upcoming holiday festivities. Remember, our furry friends rely on us to keep them safe and comfortable in all situations.

🔥 Hot pavements and surfaces can be dangerous for your pets' paws as they don't have shoes to protect them. Before taking your dog for a walk, test the ground with your hand - if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws! Opt for early morning or late evening walks when surfaces are cooler.

🚗 Never leave your pets in a parked car, even for a short time. Temperatures can quickly rise to dangerous levels, putting your pet at risk of heatstroke and even death.

🐰 As we prepare for the Easter holiday, please remember to keep chocolate and other harmful treats out of reach of your pets. These goodies can be toxic to our furry friends and lead to serious health issues.

🌿 Ensure your pets have access to shade and plenty of fresh water at all times. Hydration is key to keeping them cool and healthy during the summer months and holiday celebrations.
