New Beginnings Animal Shelter

New Beginnings Animal Shelter Our mission is to provide a home for unwanted and abandoned pets, and advocate for legal protection Welcome! They are the "unwanted".

For many pets, there comes a point in their lives when they are no longer cute enough, playful enough, or even fierce enough(if they were purchased for security). Sometimes it's health issues - they got sick, or old or got mange or ticks, or even that they smell bad. Many reasons are given when someone no longer wants their pet. We are here to give them a last chance at love. Here they will feel love and know that they are wanted...and safe at last.

June to September has been a rough time for the animals at the shelter this year. Dry season was also fire season and we had several very close calls. I decided we needed to have a couple of elevated platforms for water tanks to gravity feed water to areas around the enclosures. I received a donation to get the posts and was also able to get the lumber (2 x 8) for braces and decking. All the lumber and 2 of the posts burned in one of the bushfires. The rains that I prayed for finally started and then it didn't stop and we went quickly from fire-dry to flooded in a day and a half. Now we need to put a couple of inches of sand in each cat and dog enclosure to keep their paws dry. I can't get that sand if I can barely feed them. The puppies should be eating at least 2 times a day and are barely getting fed once a day. Right now, the urgent need is FOOD for both the cats and dogs.
If there is anyone on my friends list here on Facebook who can donate cat food for the shelter, please contact me on +501-666-0872.

Greetings to friends and family, at home and abroad.
Yesterday, 2 girl puppies I bottle fed and raised from2 weeks old, went to their new homes. That is great news and I am happy they were adopted by people who I know will follow up with vaccines and getting them spayed when the time comes.
There are 13 more puppies that still need to be fed and are growing quickly. 4 of them are ready - fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. 6 of them are short of their last vaccine and will need to be spayed/neutered before adoption and 3 need to start their vaccinations asap.
If you have any questions or can help to feed them, adopt one or two of them, or donate toward their vaccines and spays/neuters, please contact me through whatsapp or call +501-666-0872.

Hungry puppies are on my mind. That's all. There are 10 puppies, 4 are over 6 months and are fully vaccinated. 3 are already spayed/neutered and one is waiting to get spayed next week. They all need good homes. The other 6 are from 2 litters and are 2 days away from their last vaccines. 4 of these have a new home to go to and 2 are still available. However, they are still in my care and today I can feed them. Tomorrow, I am not sure what will happen when they are hungry, there's no food and no money.

I was told once by someone I respect and admire, that if you want something badly enough, ask the universe and it might be right there just waiting for someone to ask for it.
With the rain of kittens and puppies lately(11 puppies and 3 new kittens), my list of things I wish I had has grown, quite a bit.
So just for sh*ts and giggles(as my daughter Tizz Musso would say) I'm putting THE list up here.
FIRST
A truck or SUV - she don't have to be pretty, but she has to be running good! Why? Because getting dogs or cats to the vet for whatever reason costs $50-60 each way. Picking up a dog or cat that needs help can happen a lot faster if you don't have to be looking someone to take you on a rescue mission. Tiny ones can travel on the bus with me in their carrier for $2.25, but big dogs are another story. Picking up chow or building materials sometimes costs more than what you are picking up, when you have to pay someone to do it. So, yes...I'm asking the universe if there is someone who wants to get rid of an extra work truck or suv.
SECOND
A small freezer to store neck and back when it's on sale. Feeding them chicken parts and rice instead of chow, would drastically cut down on the feeding costs, our biggest recurring expense.
THIRD
Ask they said, you never know...so here goes. I really would like to have a 20ft or 30ft shipping container or retired school bus that can work as a hurricane shelter. Thinking about hurricanes really keeps me up at night.
This other stuff is helpful too.
- Old sheets and towels(puppies p**p a LOT), and old t-shirts, cloth placemats, old bathmats - these work really well in the bottom of a pet carrier to soak up p*e.
- baby gate, old playpen, large plastic totes, cat-sized pet carriers, wire cages(all sizes).
- Chow - dog, puppy and cat. canned cat food for kittens just learning to eat
- chainsaw, rechargeable electric tools (drill and saw)
- 2 x 4's, 1 x 4's, 1 x 6's - short pieces for doghouses (any used form boards etc.
- cleaning supplies: Bleach, white vinegar, laundry soap(powder), paper towels, toilet paper.

New Beginnings Animal Shelter will have a table set up at the SALE event at Reimers Feed Mill this Friday and Saturday, July 26th and 27th to accept donations of items you can get there at their special discount prices.

Beryl is on my mind.
About 10 -12 years ago I ended up with several rescued dogs but at the time, I just kept them because I had enough yard space and was able to feed and take care of them. One by one, they came to my yard, sometimes 2 at a time. All except for Maxine, they all were unwanted dogs and cats and I took them in and gave them a home. Exactly four years ago, I could no longer pay rent at where I was living and had to move out. I was either going to be the crazy cat lady or start a shelter. I made the decision to start a shelter and started clearing the bush and building enclosures for the dogs and cats out of whatever I could beg or buy or cut from the property. the first cat house was made out of palmetto sticks(primenta, papta) and then I added a larger section made from palletts and chicken wire. Donations of used metal roofing, throwaways from sawmills and lumberyards, wire fencing etc were used to made several more cat enclosures and dog runs with houses. I won't lie, I have felt like giving up many times, I've had days when I don't know where food for them would come from and days when I could give away some to people I knew were struggling to feed their pets. That first palmetto and pallet structure has been feeding termites for the last couple years and the 12 cats living in there need a new catio. The plan was to be able to move them in a couple of months before "our" hurricane season, but...Beryl!
Right now we need to at least try to reinforce the smaller side and at least give them a place to hide for the few hours of rain and wind expected.
Another concern is the food supply. sometimes it's one bag at a time but during this hurricane season, we need to have at least 2 weeks on hand. If anyone can donate a bag or two, please make a deposit directly to
Serendib Imports
Belize Bank
232231010120025
for payment to Inv 113325 and Inv 2797

If you would like to assist with vet bills for the 4 litters taken in this year, or the kittens who have been raised and spayed or neutered, please make a deposit to Animal Medical Centre for either the Princess Pups (five) or Western Pine (four) pups. These have all been fully vaccinated and are in the process of being spayed and neutered to be ready for adoption. The two other litters (5 + 2) have started their vaccines already.
Anything is greatly appreciated!

hello Friends and Family everywhere. today my mind is on fires. I've been seeing the fires raging in the Mountain Pine Ridge, I hear about the fires in Toledo and the skies are not the beautiful blue skies we should be seeing over our beautiful Belize. All I see is smokey skies. I have friends that are struggling tobreathe daily. We know what is causing this problem, why can't it be stopped? I'm away from home and stressing because fire in the area of the New Beginnings Animal Shelter is savanna and very dry right now. We desperately need to have water on demand to be able to fight any fires that could get close to the animals. There is no money available right now for any projects because we are currently on our 3rd litter of puppies, and these 7 had to be bottle fed after their mama went missing in the bush. Our previous 2 litters are now fully vaccinated and are now waiting to get spayed and neutered. That's 4 spays $808 and 5 neuters $675 and transportation to and from the clinic. Sometimes we are able to get transportation, but most of the time it has to be a taxi and that's an additional $50 each way.
If you can assist with vet bills for these pups and the next 7 who will start vccines in another 2 weeks, or with our water supply project, we appreciate anything $5 - $500 or more, anything and everything puts us closer to keeping the animals safe, and healthy. Six puppies have homes to go to as soon as they can get spayed and neutered. Urgent needs are dog and cat food, and any help with elevating the water tank to be able to have faster access to water. Right now, it's buckets and a wheelbarrow to get water to the dogs and cats daily andwith this heat its 2 or 3 times a day.
the little scrawny puppies dumped at Western Pines turned into beautiful pups.

On Sunday, Princess, a very old female stray dog needed to find a safe and secure space to have her puppies and ended up in my friend's yard, under her house and started having her pups. By Monday morning, she had 6 and on Monday afternoon when I got there, she had 8, six were still alive. I could tell she wasn't done yet and did not want to move her while she was still pushing out the pups. Last night she had 3 more but lost 3 more. In all, Princess gave birth to 11 puppies and it took her 2 days. 6 survived and 5 did not. The first stop after picking her up this morning was at AMC for a checkup. Her results are not good and will be a challenge but Princess and her pups deserve a chance at a good life. She tested positive for Tick Fever and Heartworm and has a very low blood count.
The challenge:
Once Princess starts her Doxycycline treatment(30 days), she cannot nurse her puppies and they will need to be hand fed every 2 hours in the beginning. The best option is to find a lactating female to feed them, second best option is to find a foster for them that can syringe or bottle feed for 3 weeks until I get back from a work trip. Please help us to find Princess's puppies a person or mama dog to feed them for 3 - 4 weeks, until they can start eating on their own.
If you can help, please contact me on 6660872 or send a message.
