My recommendation to all new breeders is - Invest in your mare battery. You don't need volume - you need quality 🦄

Who matters more? The mare or stallion?

In a 2015 study, 675 foals were divided into 4 categories.
1. Elite dam x Elite sire (EE)
2. Elite dam x Poor sire (EP)
3. Poor dam x Elite sire (PE)
4. Poor dam x Poor sire (PP)
Unsurprisingly, the best offspring came from the Elite dam x Elite sire group. Here’s a twist… the worst offspring did not come from the Poor dam x Poor sire group as one would expect. The worst performers came from the Poor dam x Elite sire group!!

Overall, the lesser performing foals came from the PE and PP groups. The highest performers were in the EE and EP groups.

Can you say ‘girl power?’ Mares have a large impact in the quality of the foal! Keep this in mind for the upcoming breeding season 😉

Sweet Pea is a gorgeous Arabian-type show mare who is broke to drive and has been my trail-driving companion for many years!!! Glitter has shown on our string for 2 years as one of our flashy Junior fillies. Glitter has impressed judges at every show, taking Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Junior Mare awards at every show despite her tiny size! Glitter is a beautiful show mare we have completely loved since she was born. She has a sweet tempered nature that allows her to be easily handled and enjoyed by kids. She will do anything for a treat. When we are at shows, and need a horse to meet the crowd and be patted by strangers, Glitter is our confident, friendly girl.

Glitter is perfectly marked pinto in a sexy dark bay color. She has a perfect star and snip and complementary markings. She has a beautiful, to-die-for Arabian head with big expressive eyes and a tiny muzzle!! Despite being tiny, her body is balanced with a beautiful long shoulder, big hindquarter and short depth of barrel. Glitter is a show horse deluxe with excellent country pleasure movement just waiting to be broke to drive!

Her dam is one of our tiny accomplished show mares, Star Valley Daydream Believer, who won the prestigious title of 2016 AMHA World Grand Champion Senior Mare. Eve is a Philia Blazes Joe Dandy "Joey" daughter which is one of our favourite bloodlines to show. On her sires side, she is a daughter of incredible World Grand Champion stallion Hunterberry Hill Simply Impressive. Impress bloodlines have been treasured in our breeding program and Spaz stamps his babies with refinement, leg length, long necks, gorgeous araby faces and movement. The Impress X Joey cross is one of our favourites!

Glitter will mature well under 32" in height. She turns 3 this year and will show as a senior mare. Break her to drive and have unlimited fun!

We got to go to the Horse Expo Canada on Sunday and made a point to watch the amazing Vancouver Island Coastal Cowgirls drill team performance!
Did you know some of the gals on the drill team are “miniature horse” people too!
It wonderful to see my dear friends from Karlena Farms again. Nothing but support for these incredible women!!
Looking forward to seeing them at shows this summer!

Thank you to KV Miniatures Training, Karina for starting in cart and showing our “Mimi”, Amaretto The Pleasure Is All Mine this year for us. Karina has laid a great foundation. Mimi is showing in Senior Halter mares, versatility, Hunter and Country Pleasure driving with Karina this year and we have been very happy! Mimi is sired by 4x World Champion Country Pleasure Driving stallion Hunterberry Hill Jess Marvelous ROM, and is the last foal out of World Reserve Grand Champion Halter mare Star Valley Aim to Please (xJoey) before she passed away. I am very much looking forward to all the trail driving I will do with Mimi this fall!

If your clippers aren’t clipping properly, and after testing multiple blades and finding that none of the blades are working, it may not be your blades!!! It is probably your Blade Drive Assembly, or clipper blade lever. (Simply put, the plastic bit that makes your blades cut). Replacing your blade drive assembly is considered regular maintenance on your clippers to keep them running well. Just like changing the oil in your car. I like to change mine per 15-20 full clips or when I can feel something is “off”. Replacing the lever will make your clippers run like new again. You have to buy the specific blade drive assembly for your clipper model, so make sure when you search for one on the internet that it is made for your model. My helpful tip of the day! Kaycee (my preferred clippers are the Andis 5 speed, for the past 10 years)

Remembering our Rumour, Silver Birches Rumour Has It. She was so beautiful and cool. Our first linebred Arenosa mare. We lost Rumour last spring. Rumour's daughter, Amaretto Honey Bless Your Heart "Lady" is due this spring for Rumour's first grand foal. Should be our first foal to arrive this spring! We are very anxiously awaiting this baby! Pictures of the cross in the comments.

Our Story

Amaretto Miniature horses: Show Horses Producing Show Horses.

Our journey in the miniature horses began in 2009 with the purchase of our first 3 AMHA/AMHR registered mini’s! Since then we have fallen in love with showing our miniature horses in Canada & the United States. Our horses are AMHA/AMHR Under 34” and many are World Champions, Honor Roll Champions, Canadian All Stars or Hall of Fame horses. Our focus is on an Arabian style miniature horse with an enjoyable temperament and movement to spare.

We are a boutique miniature horse breeding program with under 10 horses. All of our horses must have a successful show history before they are bred. Each foal born on our farm is a result of many years of exhibiting, training and research on what would make the most complimentary cross.
