Spring is here, and so are allergies! 🤧 Just like humans, pets can suffer from seasonal allergies, and the signs and symptoms can be quite similar. Here's some things to watch out for:

1. Itchy skin
2. Sneezing and coughing
3. Eye and ear infections
4. Behavioural changes
5. Gastrointestinal issues

To reduce allergy symptoms, try minimizing your pets exposure to allergens and bathe your pet regularly. If allergies persist, make sure to consult with your veterinarian!

Jon’s story with McCarthy has humble beginnings. He started as a teenager, sweeping floors and helping out with shipping back when his father, the late Bob Owens, purchased the company in 1990. After ten years, Jon was proud to join the sales team and go on to earn his Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary.

With a growing vision of what McCarthy could become, Jon's hard work paid off, receiving a promotion to McCarthy’s President in 2017. Never content to sit still, Jon purchased the company allowing him to further develop his vision of what McCarthy is today and what it can be in the future. On Valentine's Day, you might want to surprise our pets with treats to show our love. 💝 However, not all human celebratory snacks are suitable for animals; it is important to double-check that your pet isn’t snacking on something they shouldn’t eat. This includes chocolate and candy containing xylitol, which can be toxic to animals. Other items that should be kept away from pets on Valentine's Day include sugar-free treats with artificial sweeteners, chewing gum, alcohol, avocados and macadamia nuts.

If you're ever unsure about what’s safe for them to consume, it is best to check in with your veterinarian. That way you can easily enjoy celebrating Valentine's Day this year without worrying about any potential threats to your pet's health!

Some of your farm producers may be preparing for winter calving season. It's a good time to remind them of the importance of ensuring cows have access to good nutrition as this can have an impact on a newborn calf's resistance to stress and disease.

Cold weather also makes additional demands on a cow's nutrient requirements. A cow that's in good health typically has an easier time when it comes to calving and will produce better quality colostrum.

As with any animal, there can be complications during the birthing process so let them know they should keep your office number handy.

🐔🦃🐐🐑 A hobby farm with chickens, turkeys, goats, sheep and one lone donkey was the first home for Kevin Dunbrack and his wife, Rachel.

As we mark Remembrance Day across the country, we'd also like to recognize the thousands of animals who have served alongside their human comrades during wartime.

The Animals In Wartime Dedication, located in downtown Ottawa, has the footprints of dogs, horses and mules stamped into the concrete, representing the marks they left behind on the battlefied. A bronze, life-sized statue of a medical service dog stands guard over the dedication.
