It truly was such a great experience learning to train with other animals. Goats have a very similar energy to dogs, donkeys move at a much slower pace, and alpacas—it's a very strange feeling walking into a group of alpacas where some can look you straight in the eyes, haha.

All in all, the learning foundations for training animals are quite similar; dogs, cats, birds—we even watched a video of someone who taught their goldfish to swim through hoops.
If you're interested in training with your dog, I encourage you to pursue it. Training helps continue to build our bond, our communication, and our patience with each other.

I'm grateful every minute of every day that I get to do what I love - if you need any help working towards your training goals, I'm here - trying to convince Ray that Rosa, Ryder, and Kyah would love a donkey brother or sister. 🤣

🤔 I wonder if our Puppy Pals would notice if I brought Sparkles the donkey back with me...? 🤣

Today is the start of day five of a five-day course on training across species! I'm grateful for the opportunity to review and practice operant and classical learning theory with Sparkles the donkey, Rottie the goat, and Elote the alpaca.

Education and Ethics

Owned by Nikki Nordick, Nikki is one of 40 in Canada to have earned her Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) and Behavior Consultant (CBCC) designations from the Council for Professional Dog Trainers. As such, Airdrie Puppy Pals and all it’s team members adhere to the ethics and L.I.M.A (least intrusive, minimally aversive) positive training philosophies outlined and required by Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.
