Here’s something interesting about Poodles and Poodle Hybrids!➡️➡️ Poodles do not have the plush double coat that many breeds have. These dogs have a single, dense coat of curled hair. Just like human hair, it grows and some of the hair falls out. When the hair of a Poodle’s coat does fall out, they often fall back into the coat. Therefore, a Poodle does not shed in the traditional sense of canine shedding. For this reason, it is important to brush their beautiful coats with a pin brush as often as you can and thoroughly to avoid tangles and matting!

Nails that are too long are at risk of being torn off, such as if your pets nail gets caught on a piece of carpeting or furniture. Nails that are too long can also break, chip and splinter among other painful conditions. This can result in an injury that might require veterinary care if it’s serious enough. Longer nails also make it harder for pets to walk around comfortably. When your dog’s nails hit the floor constantly as they walk, this can put more pressure on the nail bed. This pressure can cause discomfort that forces your dog to distribute their weight differently while they walk, which can affect the way their toe and paw joints are aligned. Arthritis can also set in over time, creating a painful condition that needs veterinary attention.

Matted hair can be dealt with by brushing or shaving under it, depending on the severity. Matted or pelted coats are nothing unusual at the start of warmer weather, but as a groomer, I advise you not to wait until the end of winter to deal with it. Mats are often painful and irritating because it can pinch and pull the skin. Imagine the roots of your hairs being pinched and pulled all day. Ouch!
