Last week I spent my time in Mexico to help with their spay and neuter campaign. This campaign offers free spay and neuter for any cats and dogs to help homelessness and stray population. Over 180 volunteers gather to assist at least 30 vets. Within two days we were able to spay and neuter 700 animals!
I have met the most inspiring and amazing people during this trip. The community was also wonderful and I found myself wishing I would have stayed longer. I also had the opportunity to help catch some street dogs to bring the campaign for spay/neuter!
This was a life changing opportunity for me and I hope to contribute my help as much as I can. I am so grateful for the new friends I have made along with this wonderful trip.
Meet Pablo!
Prior to being surrendered to a shelter, Pablo was tied to a tree outside in the hopes of being a guard dog to his previous home for 4 years. You can see in the video how great of a "guard dog" this gentle giant would be, as Pablo is 127 lb of all love and smooches! As a result of Pablo's history, he had never been on a leash before. With paitence, consistency and lots of positive reinforcement, we saw an improvement despite his size and strength. Never give up, anything is possible!
Pablo has been adopted to his furever family ❤️
Happy October! 🍁
Going for a walk with your dog is a wonderful activity and is healthy for the both of you!
TomTom has been working to slowly overcome his fears, and he was able to go for a short walk outside on the leash for the first time! We were so proud to watch him take these slow, baby steps and provide him with lots of encouragement!
TomTom is a rescue dog who is new to Canada and was nervous with all the new environments and people. We slowly built up his confidence, and in just a few short weeks, achieved this proud moment! Way to go TomTom! 🐶🐾
Do you massage your pets? Molson loved his!
Most dogs enjoy a relaxing massage. It has many benefits including loosen tight muscles, increasing blood flow and reducing stress and anxiety.
Shelter canine enrichment!
Midas is enjoying his peanut butter time and this idea can also be enjoyed at home with your pup! 🥜🐶
Purchase a silicone pot holder from the Dollar store to create a homemade "lickimat"!
(Make sure you always supervise your dog with any toys/treats)
Trust is a process. These adorable pups are slowly learning to trust people, with the use of a clicker to reinforce the positive behaviours as well as their favourite treats, they are on the path to confident dogs!
Marley loves his snuffle mats!
What is a snuffle mat?
The snuffle mat consists of fabirc strips, usually fleece, tied onto a rubber mat with holes in it. The loose ends of the fleece are on top and provide the hiding spots for treats.
Your dog’s sense of smell is his most important sense! A snuffle mat is a great enrichment activity designed to tap into your dog’s sense of smell, providing mental and physical stimulation.
Snuffle mat enrichment is used to help strengthen search and find skills while also providing additional benefits, including:
🐶Reducing boredom and stress
🐶Slows down fast eaters
🐶 Mentally stimulating
🐶Great for pets on restricted exercise
🐶Encouraging attentive play
& much more benefits!
