It is with heavy hearts we share the news of Conrad’s passing on January 20, 2025.

Conrad was the heart of Momentum, and this practice would not be what it is today without his vision, hard work and leadership.

Above all else, he was an exceptional dad and husband, and our support continues to be with the Wilgenbusch family during this difficult time.

Thank you for your support and patience as we navigate this season.

Service details to follow.

Happy Zen Friday!
Did you know your horse could get acupuncture?
Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has existed for more than 5000 years.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the effectiveness of acupuncture as a form of analgesia, or pain relief.
Equine acupuncture is used extensively for musculoskeletal problems such as muscle soreness and back and neck pain. It can also be incorporated into the conventional treatment of many other conditions such as anxiety, estrus irritability in. mares, allergies, and gastrointestinal issues.
It is a drug-free option for all horses - but especially performance horses competing under FEI or Equine Canada rules.
When acupuncture needles are inserted - the body releases a cascade of chemicals including serotonin and dopamine which help horses to feel calm and relaxed.
Want to learn more and find out how acupuncture can benefit your horse?

Traditionally, February is Equine Dental Health Month - but the Wise Team wants to remind you your horse's teeth are important all year long.
Annual dental exams are critical because we can't see inside their mouths so problems can be developing long before the horse shows any signs of discomfort.
Dental problems can lead to difficulty chewing, weight loss, and excessive drooling. Even subtle abnormalities can affect their comfort in the bridle or willingness to accept a contact. Routine dental care is a great way to practise preventative maintenance and stop dental discomfort before it develops.
Wise Equine is committed to helping you with this goal and will include a Dental Discount with any dental completed within 15 months of the horse's previous dental with us. We are committed to helping you provide essential dental care to your horse all year long.
Call the clinic for further details or to book your dental with Wise today!!!

Rounding out the top 3 in our Christmas Charity Contest is Ladner-based Tiny Tales Pony Rescue!

13 years ago Marilyn and her daughter Tara saw a need for a pony rescue and Tiny Tales was born. They quickly evolved into a miniature horse rescue as well and have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed more than 120 miniature horses and ponies.
Run by tireless volunteers in Ladner, BC, Tiny Tales has four generations of mini horse and pony lovers making a difference in these animals' lives every day.
They are currently nursing a donkey named Rio back to soundness after a terrible hoof infection.
If you're interested in adopting or volunteering - here's how to help out:

Congratulations to Humanity for Horses for being a top-three winner in our Christmas Charity Contest!

Located in Duncan, BC, Humanity for Horses has been rescuing horses from the auction block for nearly a decade. They outbid meat buyers to save these incredible animals and provide them with the care they desperately need.

Currently, 31 horses call Humanity for Horses home, including 12 permanent residents who cannot be rehomed due to medical conditions. These special horses will live out their lives surrounded by love and compassion at the sanctuary.

Many of the horses arrive having never received proper care, such as dental work, vaccinations, or deworming. The sanctuary ensures all these vital needs are met. However, the costs are significant - particularly their enormous monthly hay bill.

Right now, they are also fundraising for hernia surgery for a pony named Mikey, with plans to bring him to the Lower Mainland for the procedure. Mikey was at the auction - to be sold for meat.

Since we had such a great response to our contest - we thought it would be a good opportunity to highlight the charities with the most nominations.... and share a bit more about them.

Congratulations to Wild Hearts Thoroughbred Adoption!

In Princeton, BC, Wild Hearts has been helping horses for 4 years now. They provide aftercare for retiring thoroughbreds coming off the race track.

The horses' needs range from soundness issues and rehabilitation, to simply preparing for a new life in a forever home.

Wild Hearts is 100% volunteer and donation driven with no paid roles and is an entirely horse first mission.

The team is currently fundraising right now for a kissing spine surgery for one of the horses in their care - a bill that will top $6,000. If you'd like to help out with a donation - learn more about aftercare or check out their latest newsletter - here's their website

As we grow at Wise - we want you to know the team, so we will be showcasing each member over the next little while.

This week - the spotlight is on Dr. Amanda!

Dr. Amanda Gilliland grew up in Langley, spending most of her weekends at her Grandpa’s sheep farm. Her passion for animals led to her 10 year involvement in the 4-H program, raising and showing sheep and beef projects.
Dr. Amanda began working at Wise Equine Veterinary Services as a veterinary assistant in 2013. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Simon Fraser University before attending vet school at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. She then completed an internship in medicine, surgery and reproduction at Burwash Equine Services in Calgary before returning to Wise Equine as an associate veterinarian.
Dr. Amanda has special interests in reproduction, dentistry and ambulatory medicine. She is also a FEI permitted treating veterinarian and enjoys the variable caseload that comes with general practice.
Dr. Amanda lives in Langley with her husband Danny and their border collie cross, Beau. Outside veterinary medicine, she enjoys camping, competing in dog agility, helping on the family farm and showing the family’s purebred Charollais sheep.
