August 22nd is National Take your Cat to the Vet Day!!

National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day reminds us that cats require just as much care as we do!
Ongoing regular checkups keep your cat happy and healthy.

Your veterinarian is trained to detect subtle signs of illness and disease. Catching these signs early is the best way to help your cat live a long, healthy life. Your veterinarian can also advise you on any questions you may have specific to your cat. It is important that your cat visits the veterinary practice yearly for their checkup, and even more often for senior cats.

Don’t delay. Make your appointment TODAY!

Did You Know? 58% of caregivers report that their cat hates going to the veterinarian. Acclimating your cat to their carrier can reduce stress for your cat during their veterinary visit.

For those clients who travel to United States with their pets we wanted to inform you of an important update regarding travel requirements for companion animals. Effective August 1, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has implemented new regulations for pets traveling to and from the United States. It is important that you familiarize yourself with these changes if you plan to travel.

As of August 1, 2024, all dogs entering the U.S. must:

*be at least 6 months of age
*have an International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compliant microchip
*appear healthy upon arrival
*have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt (this form will only be made available by the CDC on July 15, 2024, and must be submitted through the CDC website)
*have additional documentation, which varies depending on where the dog has been in the past 6 months before entering the U.S., and the dog's rabies vaccination status

Please follow this link for more information for travel with your pets to and from the U.S. AFTER August 1, 2024:

Links and instructions to required forms for importing a dog to the United States. The forms on this website are specific to the importation of dogs under CDC’s updated dog and cat regulation, effective August 1, 2024

Canine Respiratory Illness in the United States

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) is aware of a canine respiratory illness circulating in several US states starting in August 2023.

While the cause appears to be unknown at this time, symptoms include coughing, sneezing, nasal or eye discharge, and lethargy. These are common indications with any respiratory illness.

Dog owners concerned about their pets contracting this or any respiratory illness, should follow these precautions:

• Limit your dog’s contacts, especially transient contacts with dogs of unknown
health status
• Keep your dog away from sick dogs
• Talk to your veterinarian about vaccination against canine parainfluenza virus (CPIV) and Bordetella bronchiseptica

Dogs who are currently ill should be kept away from other dogs.

The CVMA will continue to monitor the situation and keep in touch with experts in the field of infectious disease in Canada and the US. We will keep members apprised of new developments.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture has received more than 200 case reports from veterinarians of a mysterious canine infectious respiratory disease since the middle of August.

Our story...

Dr. Cutcliffe graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1996 and has been working as an associate for other veterinarians ever since. Finally, this year, she decided it was time to take the best ideas from all the practices she has worked at and set up the veterinary hospital she would want for her own pets. At Fairfield Pet Hospital Dr. Cutcliffe has built a companion animal general practice where pets and their owners will feel welcome and comfortable. You and your pets will receive our full attention and care every time, and we realize each pet is different, and each is an important member of your family.
