THUNDER β›ˆβ›ˆ , FIREWORKS , general anxiety , here are a few tips you can follow , some we already know , easily done whilst relaxing with your dog.

HEAD - circulating massage using the entire half of your index finger hits four points of which have a soothing and calming effect, we all have probably done this and our dogs nod off , it aids to sleep inducing.

Feet - the first point is on the inside of the ankle in the hollow between the Achilles tendon and the top of the ankle knuckle , you do not do the bone , press the point between your thumb and index finger for about a minute and combine it with a gentle massage on the other points marked . this can be done a few times a day .

treating these points on the dogs feet can strenghten your dogs bones and teeth , in Acupuncture this point lies on the energy path for the kidney which can stimulate the dogs urinary tract.

these are just guides and may not work for your pet but its worth a try , all dogs respond differently.

🚩🚩 please be aware the point on the large pad must be avoided if you dog has heart issues . 🚩🚩

Grizzly sprained his ankle last spring , and it had been bothering him on and off throughout the summer , it had aggrevated Arthritis , there were days he limped badly and then it was ok , we started massage on that area avoiding the joints and daily accupessure , so far he has not limped in 4/5 months , it won't get rid of the Arthritis but its managing it , with the thaw and it freezing i was expecting it to be flaring up but i am so pleased to say so far so good and the whole joint is not swollen now . We are doing Accupressure weekly now and a whole body massage once a month , thats my way on checking the lumps and bumps he has under the skin .

( he has been vet checked and had bloodwork done )

POINT 40
Painkiller 1

this is also known as the Aspirin point, as it can work as a pain killer on the dog, also referred to as the Arthritis point, it can be used to attenuate pain along the spine from neck to tail.

The point is on the outside of both hind legs in the soft hollow area between the ankle and the Achillies tendon. Press for about 60 secs a few times a day for a week. if the dog improves and you see the dog happier and moves alot freer then continue.

POINT 41

Painkiller 2

this point can be used for any kind of pain your dog may have. Dogs that do sports are especially prone to tendonitis, this helps the recover faster by using this post. It is also energetically related to the large intestine and therefore is a good point if the dog has constipation or other intestinal problems

The point is on both forepaws in the web between the dewclaw and the next toe. when using the point for pain , massage as strongly as the dog allows for about 60 seconds in the point several times daily.

This is a MASTERPOINT 6

the hormone point .

This point is great for Allergies , Asthma or inflammatory conditions. It helps to form the natural adrenal cortical hormone , Cortisol.
The point also has an effect on the dogs metabolism and thus its weight.

The point is in the middle of the innermost small foot pad on both Hind paws, circulate 10-12 times with the finger tip and then pump 10-12 times on each foot pad

On puppies it stimulates their growth.

OLDER DOGS

With all this great weather we are having we do not want to think of the snow and ice. This is the time it gets harder for the older dogs , no one wants them to hurt themselves slipping, stiffening up or generally getting older through not as much activity, Getting a massage can help them through the colder months.

massaging the head , tapping and pushing the fingers along the occipital ridge can stimulate brain activity.

ear massages are soothing plus can balance the air pressure within the canals.

Gentle range and motion techniques , gently bending the limbs to help pump lymphatic fluid ( drainage ) , keep the joints lubricated

Cervical spine massage helps with the blood flow to the forelegs , can also relieve the tightness and arthritis in the shoulders.

Working the shoulders down the sides of the spine , can also help to stimulate the brain.

Generally working the muscles gently throughout the body , taking into account old bones , sore joints , and any swelling in those areas.

Overall we just want our older dogs to feel more comfortable in the months when the weather is not ideal for them.

Gus gets so excited when I arrive he can not contain himself , as soon as we set the table up he’s ready to go , try covering the table with a dog all over it 🀣. He is really relaxing into it now , it must make him feel good he’s like a wild thing when we get him out to p*e . Then sleeps like a log. ❀️

Another quick massage going through the motions on the front half of Iclyn , I can use more pressure on her as she has had a lot of massages now , generally a full massage is 45 mins on a dog her size , so the whole massage is slower.
She does not have any known injuries and I just massage her to monitor things as we head into Winter and the icy weather , keeping those muscle supple and blood flowing .

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Utilizes techniques that affect the sub-layer of the musculature and fascia. The focus is on alleviating chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, loosening knots and pressure points and best used for specific muscle aches and pains, eg neck, back, legs. Very helpful in reducing inflammation related pain caused by arthritis and tendidinitis. Deep finger pressure is applied to the deep layers of the muscles to ease and release contracted areas. Deep tissue massage is used in both sport and therapeutic massage

i have done a faster massage to just show you a brief version in a shorter space of time, Grizzly has had a full massage prior to this , he chooses to stay in that position rather than lay down , I work with the dog and their comfort level , He has arthritis in his left front leg and sprained his ankle back in the spring which agrivated the arthritis .

SWEDISH or THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

A canine massage is to improve and support the overall well being of the dog, increase their quality of life and comfort. It boosts the immune system, improves the circulatory system, muscle tone , digestion and skin tone.
It is suitable for all dogs, particularly puppies where a gentler hand is required and older or convalescing dogs. Because it improves circulation it can be good for dogs whose heart or kidney function is impaired ( check with a vet ) .Stimulating circulation eliminates toxins from tissue while supplying nutrients.
This is a very relaxing massage that can be performed anytime ( there are exceptions ) .Long strokes like effleurage, and kneading techniques on the superficial muscle layers to relieve muscle tension, increase range of motion and increase blood and lymph circulation. Helps with the dissolution of scar tissue and adhesions. Improved circulation can sp*ed healing time and swelling caused by injury as well as improve many bodily functions.
It is the most widely practiced type of massage, Swedish massage is a mostly relaxing system of techniques designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes all flowing to the heart , are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body.
